Job Description

Our client in the London, Ontario area is looking to add a Controller to their team. This is a newly created position that will report directly to the VP of Finance.

Controller 

Position Summary:
     
 
Responsible for the day to day operations of the Finance Department and the timely & accurate reporting of all financial information including financial reports required by Company management, Corporation and regulatory agencies.  Provide leadership and coordination of Company financial reporting, compliance, internal control, and budget management functions. Ensure Company accounting procedures conform with both Canadian and U.S generally accepted accounting principles and consistent with their accounting policy.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
 
  1. Responsible for all monthly, quarterly and year-end closings and financial reporting
  2. Ensures that all established policies, rules, regulations and agreements are followed.  Ensures that all department processes and procedures are appropriately documented and complied with
  3. Maintain an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls
  4. Keeps abreast of current accounting trends, practices and regulations (external & internal)
  5. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget, forecast and prior year
  6. Ensure compliance with local, provincial and federal reporting requirements.
  7. Administer & monitor various transfer pricing relationships / reporting 
  8. Establish, implement and monitor short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  9. Manage and direct the performance, recruitment, retention and development of staff to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
  10. Recommends and monitors benchmarks for measuring financial and operating performance
  11. Coordinate the various tax compliance reporting including statutory financial statements and act as Company representative for any financial and taxation audits, both internal and external
  12. Assist VP Finance/CFO with administration of the various company pension plans
  13. Informs VP Finance/CFO of significant matters within the financial reporting & the department
Qualification:

Thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, internal audit, budgeting, and cost control principles including Canadian and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  1. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  2. Knowledge of federal and provincial financial and taxation regulations.
  3. Highly developed problem solving and analytical skills
  4. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  5. Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality results within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  7. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  8. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including potentially extended hours during month end reporting and other key times during the fiscal year
 
Educational Requirements:
 
Highly technical with a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field accompanied with a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with at least ten years experience in a senior level finance or accounting position in a mid-sized manufacturing environment.
 
Additional Skill and Knowledge Requirements:
 
Ideal candidate will also have:
 
  1. Ten years’ experience in a senior level finance or accounting position in a mid-sized manufacturing environment.
  2. Experience working for, or a subsidiary of, a public company
  3. Sarbanes Oxley and a strong controls background
  4. Significant costing experience
  5. Management of a midsized  accounting group
  6. Maturity developed through diverse cultural or management environments to handle organization cultural change
  7. Desire and ability to lead improvement in the level of excellence, and an appreciation for the requirements of all customers (stakeholders)
  8. JD Edwards or similar ERP experience
  9. Strong work ethic, hands on approach and willingness to work extended hours if required
