Job Description

Working under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development, Tourism & Strategic Initiatives, this role is responsible for connecting directly with Elgin’s existing and prospective business community to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate community economic development, business retention and expansion initiatives within the County of Elgin.

Key Responsibilities:
  •   Assist the Manager with projects and initiatives.
  •   Responsible for the County-Wide Community Improvement Plan (“Elgincentives”).
  •   Undertake Community Economic Development (CED) activities and programs.
  •   Connect with local business, encouraging continued growth and success.
  •   Assist in maintaining a business retention and expansion program.
  •   Assist in identifying and recruiting new industry to attract to the County.
  •   Research and recommend business retention and expansion initiatives.
  •   Identify funding from Federal, Provincial and private sources to develop projects.
  •   Manage social media platforms inline with corporate communications initiatives.
  •   Participate on committees, trade shows, community events and networking functions.
  •   Maintain detailed economic development statistics for Elgin County’s targeted sectors.
  •   Maintain information including contact management system/database.
  •   Undertake initiatives to ensure that Elgin County is “investment ready.”
  •   Attend Committee and Council meetings to present reports and recommendations.
  •   Recommend enhancements to department policies, and procedures.
  •   Back-up to the Manager of Economic Development, Tourism & Strategic Initiatives
Qualifications:      
1.   Post-secondary degree in business, economic development or a related course of study.
2.   Ec.D designation from the University of Waterloo, or enrolled in the EDAC program.
3.   3-5 years’ experience with economic development, business development and marketing.
4.   Experience in or running a business, facilitating business development and sustainability.
5.   A strong facilitator, achieving results in the face of adversity, being positive and proactive.
6.   Detailed knowledge of rural economic strategies & Elgin County.
7.   Effective communication within a team environment involving diverse stakeholders.
8.   Exceptional time management, organizational and communication skills.
9.   Excellent computer skills, web-based applications, databases, and spreadsheets.
10. Ability to travel and to work occasional weekends and evenings is mandatory.
11. Valid Ontario class ‘G’ drivers’ license and use of a reliable vehicle for County business.
 
Hours:  35 hours per week                
Location: County Administration Building (450 Sunset Drive, St. Thomas, ON)
Salary: $72,199.40 - $84,466.20 per year   
Effective: ASAP
