Indigenous Services Program Coordinator (Youth Outreach)

Indigenous Services is committed to supporting Indigenous students in reaching their highest potential.  Indigenous Services, part of the Student Development Centre, supports this commitment through the provision of a culturally-responsive space, programs and services that provide holistic and strength-based approaches to support indigenous students' self-determination.

The Program Coordinator will work with all staff, students, and volunteers within Indigenous Services to develop pre-university enrichment programming and services which will encourage Indigenous prospective youth to move from one educational level to another, for example, High School to Western.  Activities will include community based youth programming such as; sports clinics and athletic events, and mini-university summer camps in collaboration with various Faculties.
 
Qualifications
Education:
  • University Degree
Experience:
  • 2 years' experience working with Indigenous Youth in an educational setting
  • Experience with program planning, curriculum development and learning styles for adults and youth

Skills & Expertise:
  • Advanced ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing), lead business discussions and train others
  • People management experience with direct accountability for recruitment, on-going training and development and performance management
  • Program planning and understanding of learning styles for youth and staff
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Self-motivated multi-tasker with strong organizational skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
  • Proven curriculum development and staff programming experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills to enable team members to achieve high-quality outcomes
  • Knowledge of general office procedures including records management systems
