To deliver the best technology services and support to faculty, staff and students in the Faculty of Social Science in a helpful and friendly manner. Responsibilities
The Programmer/Analyst will design, implement, maintain and support new and existing software solutions, helping to administer departmental services provided to the Faculty of Social Science. The Programmer/Analyst will be responsible for creating, and maintaining SQL databases supporting research projects, departmental web applications, and administrative applications within the FSS. The role will provide support to the web infrastructure including setting up websites, setting up security and supporting all web editors in the faculty while also providing client technical support for Social Science Technology Services and the faculty.
Qualifications
Education:
- College diploma in an information technology field or a university degree with a minor in an information technology field
- Proficiency in a variety of programming languages, including PHP, Javascript, CSS, Perl, C#, Visual Studio and HTML
- University degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred
Experience:
- 2 years of relevant experience in IT programming and technical support
- Previous experience working in an IT Programming and Technical support role in an academic or public sector institution preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Windows Server including Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and Share and NTFS permissions
- Advanced computer skills with Windows and software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook and Word), SQL, and with content management systems (such as Cascade)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing)
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical users
- Ability to write clear, concise procedural documentation
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Strong customer service skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
- A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects and rapidly changing priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
