About Us

The mandate of the Student Experience portfolio is to encourage student engagement and to enhance overall student life at Western. The Student Experience umbrella encompasses Indigenous Services, Entrepreneurship Centre (Propel), Sports and Recreation, Student Development Centre, Student Success Centre, and the Wellness Education Centre, which operate together to create an environment in which students can thrive. Student Experience also collaborates closely with the University Students’ Council, Society of Graduate Students, and other departments across campus.

The Student Success Centre facilitates the development of career, educational, and life competencies for students and alumni through programs and services that guide successful transitions, foster local and global citizenship, promote leadership opportunities, encourage personal growth, deliver career resources, and ignite active engagement.

Responsibilities

Through strategic outreach to employers, the Relationship Developer identifies Western programs that are a fit for an organization’s hiring needs, and promotes the full suite of on-campus recruiting activities offered by The Student Success Centre. In addition, the Relationship Developer fosters positive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as these relationships work to provide a streamlined approach to increasing the number of employers hiring Western’s students and alumni.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree
Preferred:
-    Undergraduate Degree from Western University, preferably in business, human resources, sales or marketing
-    Master’s Degree (Communications, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, MBA)

Experience:
-    3 years of related experience, preferably in the employment or recruitment industry, including sales, job searches, corporate recruiting of university students or working in human resources
-    3 years’ experience managing client relationships with global and national corporate and community based organizations 
-    2 years’ experience in event planning
-    2 years’ experience working in a university environment, preferably with a student services background would be an asset
-    2 years’ experience leading/supervising/orienting staff and volunteers would be an asset
-    Experience conducting market research, analysis and identification of target markets is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Strong relationship development skills with proven ability to assess needs, handle objections and recommend solutions to clients both in person and on the telephone
-    Strong knowledge of corporate recruiting, and knowledge of Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) standards and guidelines for ethical recruitment preferred
-    Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence change at all levels of an organization
-    Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple projects and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities 
-    Engaging presentation skills with demonstrated ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others
-    Leadership skills with the ability to develop a shared vision to lead team members (e.g. work study, part-time staff, event volunteers)
-    Knowledge, expertise and proficiency with social media platforms to engage students, alumni, and employers
-    Strong judgment, analytical and problem solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-    Demonstration of strong budget management skills, especially within a revenue generating environment 
-    Intermediate proficiency with relevant computing applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, CareerCentral, Cascade, Client Relations Management systems, web-based applications etc.)
