PERMANENT ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INSTRUCTORS

POSITION SUMMARY
The ESL Instructor delivers programming and provides instruction for the purpose of improving English language competency in adult learners at all levels of ability.  The instructor completes all administrative and record-keeping tasks in compliance with government and organizational policies, and may be assigned to a community agency location, an employer’s workplace or an institution.
 
RATE OF PAY: $33.58 per hour for non-Members of the Ontario College of Teachers
                           $42.06 per hour, for Members of the Ontario College of Teachers

START DATE:   2024 September (subject to sufficient student enrollment)
DEADLINE DATE: 2024 June 26


Positions:
Banting Annex: One 25-hour position from 9:15-2:45 

South London Site: Two 25-hour positions from 9:15 am to 2:45 pm 

Montcalm: 
Three 25-hour positions from 3:15–8:45
Three 12.5-hour positions from 6:15-8:45

All of the above positions are for in-person programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with course objectives and the Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Develop and document a term plan and daily lessons to be submitted to supervisor(s) as requested.
  • Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet the abilities and interests of individual students.
  • Establish routines and procedures to maintain order in the classroom.
  • Assess cumulative progress of learner and provide evidence-based documentation that demonstrates achievement.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to and an understanding of the learning challenges of a diverse adult learner population.
  • Provide direction to volunteers in the classroom.                                  
  • Become familiar with various specialized programs and requirements within ESL.
  • Maintain daily attendance registers and input information in database.
  • Provide agencies with information regarding specific learners as required.
  • Attend required staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Report personal absence as required and arrange for a supply instructor.
  • Provide an outline and materials for supply instructors
 
QUALIFICATIONS: OCELT (formerly TESL Ontario Accreditation) is required.  A minimum of an Undergraduate Degree, including formal training in Adult ESL and an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and sociological issues.  Experience with the delivery of educational programming, ideally with adult learners, is required.
