To provide effective financial leadership, services, information and stewardship in support of the academic, research and service activities of Western’s community.

In support of Western’s academic, research and service activities, the Manager, Systems and Support focuses on the day-to-day systems related activities that are required to facilitate a smooth running financial management system for the University community. The incumbent creates and provides end-user training and oversees the Systems Support Financial Assistant to ensure financial transactions are properly processed.  The Manager coordinates the month end close process and year-end communications for Financial Services, to ensure that all journal entries are completely posted, financial reporting tables are up-to-date, system status emails are sent to financial analysts, and financial reports are generated.  The Incumbent assists with end user security updates and provides front-line problem resolution support, escalating issues as required.  The Manager also oversees the Expense module workflow and security to ensure that expense approvals are automatically routed to the appropriate persons.

Qualifications

Education:
-   University Degree in a related field (Business or Computer Science)
-   Completion of (or enrollment in) a professional certification program (e.g.CIM, CPP, CPA) is preferred

Experience:
-   3 years experience in a help desk/systems support role
-   Previous supervisory experience in a large decentralized environment
-   Experience working with PeopleSoft or an ERP system is preferred
-   Experience delivering training sessions and making presentations is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Self-directed and comfortable exercising discretion and independent judgment in a fast-paced environment
-   Strong communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
-   Client service skills to understand customer needs and expectations, with a desire to deliver helpful and reliable service to the University community
-   Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
-   Strong knowledge of the PeopleSoft Financials applications – General Ledger, Expenses, A/P, Purchasing, Billing and the ability to write queries
-   Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (strong abilities with Excel preferred)
-   Critical thinking skills to analyze problems, and collect information required to make an accurate conclusion
-   Ability to work as a team to maximize opportunities for process improvement across the unit
-   Ability to identify and respond to contentious or sensitive issues with discretion
-   Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
-   Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
-   Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
-   Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team
-   Knowledge of Western’s Financial Services business processes, Purchasing and Travel policies preferred
