This position offers an exciting leadership opportunity within the King’s Senior Administrative Team to collaborate within the King’s community, affiliated University Colleges and Western University to deliver Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits functions for the King’s Community.

The Director of Human Resources will develop positive relationships and work in partnership with senior administration in all areas of Human Resources, such as providing coaching, advice and assistance in the areas of: recruiting and retention, employee relations and performance, labour law and regulation compliance, Equity Diversity, Inclusivity and Decolonization initiatives, organizational development and restructuring, job classification, position descriptions, conflict resolution and employee recognition.

The Director will lead the Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits team, while promoting team spirit, cohesiveness, motivation and commitment to the department. They will play a lead role in the negotiation, implementation and interpretation of salary and benefits and collective agreement documents for all four employee groups (2 unions and 2 employee associations). The Director will work with external counsel and represent King’s at mediation, arbitration and Human Rights cases to ensure King’s is appropriately represented.

The Director will partner with King’s leadership, departments and academic units to provide HR counsel, such as coaching, advice and assistance with regards to conflict/problem resolution, carries out internal investigations as required, and participates in the grievance process for employee groups as dictated by the appropriate Terms and Conditions and Collective Agreements. The Director will represent King’s, both internally and externally, as the Human Resources contact on a range of matters affecting King’s employees.

Required Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years prior experience in progressively more advanced HR roles within an HR department with senior management and supervisory experience.
  • Membership in an HR Professional Association is required.
  • CHRL designation is preferred.
  • Negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills are a requirement for this position
  • Highly developed skills in oral and written communication; strong organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels within King’s as well as externally; ability to deal with Senior University Administrators in a manner which facilitates cooperation
  • High degree of political acuity and judgement; flexible listener
  • Broad knowledge of university employee relations practices, policy development and emerging related laws/regulations
  • Policy development experience at a senior level working with a diverse group of constituents
  • Must be detail oriented with problem solving, negotiating and mediating skills with an extensive knowledge of equity data
  • Well-honed leadership, motivational and team building skills
  • Experience with facilitating change in key matters
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have previous HRIS experience
