Summary of Duties:

Reports to the Accounts Payable and Processing Supervisor. Coordinates follow-up of all overpayments and assignment monies, providing assistance in recording of cash receipts, and signing and distribution of welfare cheques and other general office functions.
 

Work Performed:

  • Monitors and maintains assignments and overpayment records ensuring accuracy. 
  • Provides follow-up on overpayment and assignment for payment and other related issues including liaison with clients, financial institutions and retail stores. 
  • Provides direction to staff in recording of cash receipts. 
  • Maintains liaison with clients, caseworkers, case assistants, managers, eligibility investigators and other agencies to resolve outstanding issues and inquiries. 
  • Provides monthly statistical reports on results including recoveries and outstanding debts. 
  • Prepares documentation for cheque production handling, collections and related activities for cases referred by caseworkers. 
  • Operates a cheque inserter machine, and distributes General Welfare Assistance and related cheques. 
  • Receives, processes and monitors all returned cheques, preparing reports on updated cheques information and maintains and reconciles, both bus tickets and bus pass floats for Ontario Works. 
  • Prepares accounting entries and performs data input on assignments, overpayments and receipts, and other various general clerical functions. 
  • Assists the manager in providing feedback based on experience as it relates to the development of new work methods, procedures and assists in updating manuals and related documentation. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Six months from a Community College Office Administration Diploma.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and various software.

Compensation & Other Information:

$39,153 - $56,877 (Level 6)

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 2 years position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.

NOTE: Applicants may be required to complete a job related test.
