SUMMARY:

Huron’s Marketing and Communications Department tells the stories of the people, the work, and the exceptional value that Huron delivers globally. The Department advances the Huron brand and brings it to life by communicating the successes of Huron’s exceptional faculty, staff, and students.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP), Marketing and Communications, the Director, Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s marketing, brand, and both internal/external communications tactics that support Huron University’s growth. This role includes responsibility for leading a team of highly skilled marketing communications professionals, ownership and governance of internal processes and workflows (that support the execution of projects) and oversight of Huron’s online properties to maintain their integrity and alignment to the brand. 

This position works closely with leaders from across Huron to understand their departmental goals and how the marketing and communications team can help achieve them. Working alongside the team of specialists, the Director, Marketing and Communications will apply creativity, best practices in higher-ed content creation and data-driven solutions to ensure a forward-looking approach to tactical excellence that is scalable, sustainable, and innovative.

The successful candidate will be able to lead internal processes including triage and workflow of projects, develop written content, provide direction and deadlines to creative services team members, and manage competing deadlines with expertise in project management. In addition, the individual brings impeccable team management skills to the role and an ability to help junior staff grow and meet their personal career goals. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of specialized marketing communications professionals;
  • Provide project management expertise within the communications and marketing team by defining project scope, goals and deliverables; defining project tasks and resource requirements; developing project plans; coordinating staff resources; tracking project status; and developing timely and accurate dashboard reports; 
  • Write and develop compelling marketing communication materials that resonate with prospective and current students, faculty, and staff and that are aligned with our value proposition;
  • Direct the work of technical specialists and content creators to ensure Huron’s website, supporting online properties and email marketing campaigns, are aligned to business objectives;  
  • Follow trends and interpret research in marketing communications advancements within the higher-education industry;
  • Manage external contractors and suppliers and ensure deadlines are met;
  • Build effective and collaborative relationships with all administrative and academic departments;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or similar discipline (equivalent, proven experience will also be considered);
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working in higher education or academia;
  • Minimum of three (3) years related leadership experience in communications and/or marketing, with a focus on strategic content development, managing email marketing campaigns, executing digital marketing strategies, traditional and digital advertising and website administration; 
  • Certification or qualifications related to Project Management is preferred;
  • Proven track record in creating, executing, and measuring successful marketing programs; 
  • Working knowledge of industry-leading email marketing platforms and email campaign execution (i.e., Campaign Monitor or Pardot);
  • Working knowledge of Content Management Systems (i.e., WordPress);
  • Working knowledge of Customer Management Systems (i.e., Salesforce);
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite programs/applications;
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding;

This is a fully in-person position due to the nature of the role.
