Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario. The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day. The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day. Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.
  
Reporting to the Breeder Manager, the Broiler Technical Service Representative will provide technical assistance and ensure compliance with management programs set out by Cargill to broiler suppliers to our facility.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
80% Technical Service
  • Communicates with broiler producers regarding pen preparation of broiler deliveries
  • Assists producers with chick management, broiler nutrition, health, bio security, housing, environment, weight, and uniformity of performance life of flock as necessary and provides technical recommendations as needed
  • Assists producers in resolving chick quality and flock health concerns, including taking samples and arranging for veterinary inspection of the birds and/or facilities 
  • Maintains good working relationships with customers 
  • Maintains regular contact and works with Manager to report success factors and/or resolve potential problems 
  • Represents the company at industry shows, seminars and meetings. Informs customers of company programs and policies regarding broiler management and animal welfare. Updates producers on relevant industry information 
  • Works with customers to ensure that weight and bird quality requirement at the processing plant are met 
  • Ensures that HACCP program requirements are maintained
20% Administration
  • Prepares own work schedule 
  • Communicates with hatchery quality team on chick quality related concerns
  • Communicates with the processing Plant on flock logistics and issues
  • Produces detailed service reports at each service visit
  • Maintains service equipment 
  • Schedules maintenance of vehicle
 
Required:
  • Post-secondary education
  • General poultry experience
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to troubleshoot and manage conflict
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred:
  • Degree or Diploma in food science, animal science, poultry science, business or other related field
  • Chicken Broiler flock management experience
