TITLE: Business Developer/Job Coach

Reporting Relationship: HIRE-UP Coordinator

Qualifications: Degree or diploma in Business, Human Services, or Education; a minimum of 2 years experience in adult education or, skills training with excellent marketing skills, Microsoft applications; driver’s license, reliable vehicle and required insurance; First Aid & CPR; experience in the customer service industry is preferred.

Job Summary: In keeping with the philosophy of inclusion and self-determination and the mission of Hutton House, the Business Devloper/Job Coach will be responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of Work Placements aimed at securing and maintaining employment for young adults with disabilities. Requires strong Administrative skills and knowledge and experience with CAMS. Providing job coaching in the community.

Job Category: Fulltime, contract for 12 months. Extension based on funding and positive probationary review.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Business/Job Development:

§ Work with the program team to achieve annual program targets.

  • Engage the participant, as appropriate, to actively participate in job development activities, ensuring they are kept informed of progress.
  • Identify possible employer prospects within the participant’s “employment” community.
  • Research employment opportunities including (as required) an initial workplace analysis to further refine an employment match.
  • Market the skills and abilities of the participant to the identified employers.
  • Identify and negotiate job carving for a participant as needed in accordance with the Job Carving Policy.
  • Provide the participant with an opportunity to meet with the employer and to gain information about the employer, the workplace, and specific job duties, assisting the participant to make an informed decision about proceeding with employment negotiations.
  • Negotiate with the employer, job duties, hours etc, ensuring the negotiated employment opportunity is in compliance with all required legislation e.g. Ministry of Labour, WSIB, and Human Rights, etc.
  • Develop a Job Coaching plan for participants who will require onsite supports or where natural supports (i.e. mentor) are available and the employer requires consultation to develop an understanding of the participant’s support requirements.
  • Return to Work Action Plans:
  • Develop and implement a Return To Work Action Plan (RTWAP) based on a preliminary needs assessment.
  • Provide Case Management, as assigned by the team, to monitor and revise each person’s RTWAP and provide Employment Counseling.
  • Refer participants to other community programs/services for elements of the RTWAP that the Employment Support program does not offer, but is essential to the success of the individual e.g. daycare, personal counseling/support services etc.
  • Employment Supports:
  • Conduct a thorough systematic job analysis of the work place as required to develop a comprehensive understanding of the position and to identify any accommodation requirements.
  • Create (if not provided by the employer) a job description and ensure it is signed by both the employer and employee.
  • Support the employer to resolve job accommodation requirements, including the provision of assistive technology.
  • Ensure the participant receives appropriate orientation and training by the employer including the completion of required documentation.
  • Provide support to the participant to learn/do the job eg. demonstrations, checklists/task analysis.
  • Reduce or fade out onsite supports as the participant consistently demonstrates competency.
  • Provide employment counseling to the participant to address issues pertaining to job retention e.g. social skills, absenteeism, productivity, problem solving.
  • Review the Employment Services Absenteeism Policy with the participant.
  • Meet on a regular basis with the employer to ensure concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Train employer personnel regarding supports on the job (natural supports).
  • Identify and negotiating job carving for a participant as needed.
  • Ensure job safety at the work site.
  • Review and obtain signatures regarding the Employment Services Privacy Policy.
  • Develop a follow up plan with the employee and employer to address any concerns or changes in job requirements.
  • Negotiate with the employer, job duties, hours etc, ensuring the negotiated employment opportunity is in compliance with all required legislation e.g. Ministry of Labour, WSIB, and Human Rights, etc.
  • Ensure the necessary support for work experience and employment placements
  • Educate and utilize natural supports on the worksite.
  • Provide advocacy to assure the rights of the employee are protected at the worksite (i.e. wage compensation).
  • Program Development:
  • Actively work to increase program effectiveness and efficiency from intake to job procurement.
  • Actively promote Hutton House Employment Services to community businesses and referral sources.
  • Maintain positive linkages with community agencies who are also providing supports to program participants.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation:
  • Ensure that each program participant completes an evaluation at the conclusion of each program component.
  • Ensure employer satisfaction surveys are completed and returned in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain outcome standards to evaluate trainee progress and overall program effectiveness.
  • Maintain tracking records on a timely basis pertaining to direct and indirect participant supports.
  • To maintain and submit a quarterly report to the Coordinator and to review monthly reports with her colleagues to ensure accurate data is submitted to the Ministry on a quarterly basis.

6. Working Relationships:

  • Maintain a positive, supportive relationship with all staff, participants and volunteers.
  • Advocate to ensure that the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities are advanced.
  • Adhere to all policies of the organization to ensure a safe and supportive environment for participants and staff.
  • Contribute as a team member to the overall mission of the organization and the goals or objectives of the team.
  • Respect and adhere to confidentiality in all communications with others and to adhere to the Participant Record Security Policy.
  • Participate in staff meetings or committee meetings and other events of the organization as required.
  • Participate in an annual performance review.
  • Participate as a positive team member engaging in professional development as required.
  • Report on a regular basis to the Service Coordinator of the Youth En Route Program.
  • Safety:
  • Maintenance of fire, safety and health conditions in compliance with Workers' Compensation, WHMIS, other legislation and Hutton House policies.
  • Correct of any offences or concerns identified by the Health and Safety Committee; reporting promptly on any physical or health condition that may affect employees, participants, or volunteers.
  • Respond to emergencies and completion/submission of accident/incident reports on a timely basis.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment.

8. Other duties as agreed upon.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 9 to 12 months with possible extension

Salary: $25.53 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
