Job Description
Summary of Duties
Works under the direction of a Supervisor or designate. Performs a variety of general construction and maintenance carpentry work on various buildings and structures.
Work Performed
Performs a variety of general and trim carpentry work, including the following:
- Erection, alteration and repair of structures.
- Build and erect forms for concrete.
- Frame roof systems, walls and ceilings ready for plastering.
- Replace door and window frames, joists, nailing strips, door frames, doors and windows.
- Lay and repair various types of flooring, materials and products.
- Layout and construct stairs, steps, handrails, landings and decks.
- Make and repair cupboards, cabinets, door sash, partitions, floors, doors, furniture, wooden buildings, roofs, glazing, caulking and insulation.
- Erect/dismantle modular furniture and related repairs.
- Install and/or repair various types of fencing
- Make concrete bench ends, and other minor concrete work such as patching, step repairs and small foundations.
- Construct and/or repair using masonry products.
Performs inspections, perform and recommends repairs of municipal facilities and structures
Use power and hand tools and equipment required in the trade.
Reads plans and plan details of own work; prepares rough sketches; prepares and maintains written work records.
Required on a continuous basis to assume some of the normal supervisory responsibilities over others.
As assigned performs related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.
Qualifications/Experience
Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent plus completion of a Journeyperson General Apprenticeship program.
Specialized Training & Licenses
Valid Ontario General Carpenter Certificate.
Valid Class G Driver's Licence.
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Note: Shift work may be required.
Compensation and Other Information
$30.68 - $34.11 per hr
