Description
Western University is recruiting candidates to fill the casual, part-time position of Proctor in Examination Services - Accommodated Exams. The candidates will be responsible to supervise students registered with Services for Students with Disabilities, who require special arrangements during tests, quizzes, and examinations. These positions require high attention to detail and a higher level of computer skills in the areas of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and the ability to quickly learn unfamiliar assistive technology software.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a pleasant outgoing personality and will have a proven ability to work well with others including both co-workers and clients. A proven record of ongoing participation in leadership roles is essential.
 
Proctors are also expected to maintain the confidentiality of the students and the exams that they are administering. Proctors are bound by Western University’s Administrative Policies and Procedures as approved by the Board of Governors, and are expected to enforce the Policies relating to Examinations as outlined in the Handbook of Academic and Scholarship Policy.   
 
Classification & Regular Hours:
 Start Date:        October 2015
 Hours of Work:   Casual Part Time (Usually between 4 and 24hrs during peak exam periods (on average 8 hours/week during normal term time), including evenings/weekends)
Salary:              $15.00 an hour plus 4% vacation pay

Key Accountabilities:
Responsibilities
  • Preparing examinations depending on individually student needs, managing multiple student rest breaks and timekeeping issues, being accountable for generating proctor reports for any incidents as prevented
  • Monitors students during tests, quizzes and examinations
  • Setup exams that require software such as Microsoft® Office Suite, Kurzweil®, ZoomText®, Dragon Naturally Speaking®, JAWS
  • Deal with inquires raised by candidates and with examination irregularities in accordance with University policies and procedures. Responsible for contacting individual faculty when necessary
  • Closely follow and enforce exam procedures and regulations
  • Check attendance during examinations, administer exams based on individual accommodations
  • Ensure that candidates take into the examination room only those articles, instruments, aids, and materials which are permitted
  • Give clear instructions to candidates about the conduct of and agreed upon accommodations for each test, quizzes and examination
  • Proctors scribe or read aloud for students with special needs as directed
  • Responsible for supervising up to 10 students at a time in one of 3 key on-campus locations or King’s University College.  (1-7 students is typical for most shifts)
 
Education, Accreditations and Experience
 
  Required
Qualification Completion of Post-Secondary School program
(College Diploma or University Degree)
Experience Minimum of 1 year customer service experience required.

  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Current CPR and First Aid preferred
