Job Description

Summary:

The Instructional Training Designer is responsible for designing and developing learning and practicing experiences.  The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective, user-friendly and appealing manner with a focus on self-service training.

 

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content including supporting material / media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.)
  • Develop an understanding of our company and business model in order to create ongoing effective learning plans
  • Work with Training Programs Manager and subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practices and methods
  • Conduct instructional research and analyze findings to synthesize information from various sources
  • Select the right instructional multimedia and write effective copy, text and audio/video scripts
  • Provide exercises and activities that supplement the training material, either created or through a vetted third party resource
  • Maintain training documentation and course folders
  • Facilitate virtual, classroom, 1:1 and train-the-trainer instruction
  • Present ideas and give direction to senior leaders about training content and delivery
  • Teach and coach others on the development of training materials and workshop sessions for their departments, regions or areas of expertise
  • Stay current on new training trends, methods and technologies and evaluate for suitability of use
  • Decide on the criteria to be used to rate the learners’ performance and experience, and develop tools for evaluation
  • Support other affiliated business units in North America with Learning Management Systems and e-learning techniques

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years’ work experience with at least 5 years working in instructional design and with instructional technology
  • 2+ years’ experience in systems training
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio /video scripts
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and visually
  • BA/BS degree in a related field

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and the ability to storyboard
