At CREVAWC we facilitate the collaboration of individuals, groups and institutions representing the diversity of the community to pursue research questions and training opportunities to understand and prevent violence and abuse.  We serve local, national and international communities by producing useful information and tools to assist in the daily work to prevent and stop violence towards women and children and vulnerable adults. 

Responsibilities

The Financial Assistant supports CREVAWC by working with Centre Directors and the Centre Manager to forecast and model expenses, monitor key financial metrics and assist in decision making processes for projects to ensure smooth financial, operational, and administrative procedures of the department.  The role liaises with the Faculty of Education Financial Officer, Western Research and funders as required to resolve financial issues.  The role is responsible for providing administrative and financial support to the CREVAWC Directors, Project Managers and the Centre Manager by conducting accounting analyses, producing drafts of financial reports and budgets, supporting the resolution of any deficits or over-expenditures, and maintaining current and accurate records and reports for all projects throughout the life cycle of the projects. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • 3 year Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
  • Courses in Human Resources would be an asset

Experience:

  • 5 years of financial accounting experience in a fund accounting environment 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
  • Familiarity with financial statements
  • Demonstrated analytical ability with a working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Solid understanding of key financial principles coupled with experience managing a revenue generating department 
  • A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
