About Us

The Reid Lab has two lines of research; one program of research focuses primarily on how families access and use mental health services for children or adolescents who have mental health problems, the second focuses on pediatric sleep problems. Research activities involve studying patterns of mental health service use over extended periods of time, from childhood into young adulthood. The overall aim of this research program is to build an evidence base needed to develop new methods of caring for children with ongoing mental health problems.

Responsibilities

We are currently about half way through a 4-year operating grant awarded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) to Dr. Graham Reid (Co-Principal Investigator; nominated PI) and Dr. Bill Gardner (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario; Co-PI) and co-investigators for a research project investigating how equity is defined and measured, and mapping geographic accessibility to mental health services for children and youth in Ontario. 

There are additional studies with the research programs that are currently being conducted and developed. This includes finalizing data analyses being conducted at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) in Toronto, ON.

The Study Coordinator/Data Analyst will be responsible for working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and assistant with liaising with Co-Investigators, staff at other institutions (e.g. Children’s Hospital, ICES), conduct data analyses to supplement work already completed, and draft reports and manuscripts, and assist with the development of new projects; co-supervise or supervise research assistants working on new projects.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Masters in Social Sciences or health-care related program

Experience:
-    1 year of experience with project coordination, writing of reports and manuscripts, data analyses
-    2 years’ experience with project coordination with expertise in writing and advanced quantitative statistics and qualitative data analyses is preferred
-    Experience in mental health or health-services research an asset
-    Experience using other data analyses programs such as SAS, STATA and Latent Gold is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
-    Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users, to complete detailed analytics and reports and write clear, concise procedural documentation
-    Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
-    Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the project needs
-    Ability to meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
-    Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
-    Judgment, analytical and problem solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-    Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative and follow through on work assignments
-    Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
-    Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
-    Proven ability to effectively manage all resources for project completion
-    Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and MS Access including database management preferred)
-    Advanced data analytical skills
-    Competence in using other data analyses programs such as SPSS
