Purpose: The Category Business Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of the categories business plan.
 
Specific responsibilities include planning and execution of the category management strategies and assortment planning, vendor negotiations, pricing and margin management, inventory management.
 
Category Business Manager (CBM) fosters a strong partnership with the Category Marketing Manager (CMM) who is accountable to market the business plan, as both managers work together to grow their shared categories.

Responsibilites:
 
Category Management
  • Responsible for the execution of the category business plan (sales, margin and inventory).
  • Responsible for assortment planning including line reviews, new product sourcing and new business development.
  • Responsible to ensure that the planograms support the category sales, margin and inventory objectives.
  • Responsible for achieving the category margin plan through the developing of pricing strategies and targets for both regular and promotional margin.
  • Manages the execution of the category clearance plan.
  • Executes the E-Comm strategy for in-store skus (EC).
  • Monitors the weekly, monthly and year-to-date performance of the category to the business plan and make adjustments as required to achieve plan.
Vendor Funds Management
  • Negotiates the vendor funds program including setting vendor targets, conducting negotiations and execution of terms.
  • Responsible for achieving the category O&A targets.
Inventory Management
  • Responsible for the execution of the category assortment to the inventory plan.
  • Develops targets for replenishment and promotional inventory to support the plan.
  • Responsible for regular sales sku forecasting.
  • Responsible to ensure that seasonal booking programs are executed to the category inventory plan.
  • Responsible for the setting of planogram MDQs and baseline inventory investment.
  • Responsible for category seasonal readiness inventory planning.
  • Monitors the monthly inventory plan making adjustments as required to achieve plan.
Team Management:
  • Responsible for the communication of the assortment plan and category targets to the category CMM.
  • Manages the performance of team members.
  • Coaches and develops team members in all aspects of Category Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Post secondary education in Business
  • 5 years experience as a Category/Product Manager
  • Detailed oriented, able to think “outside the box”
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic business development
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills
  • Proven leadership skills – capable of developing and fostering a team environment
  • Self starter efficient and organized in a fast paced exciting environment
  • Prioritization, time management and multi tasking are essential to meet deadlines
