Position: Youth Engagement Counsellor
Organization: WAYS Mental Health Support
Status: 30 hours per week for approximately 11 weeks; weekends and evenings required
Wage Rate: $13.40 / hour
Anticipated Start Date: June 2017

WAYS Mental Health Support is an accredited children’s mental health centre that supports children, youth and their families throughout Southwestern Ontario. Since 1969, over 5,000 youth have lived in our group homes and thousands more have benefited from a variety of community programs. WAYS Mental Health Support has over 180 staff with a consolidated management team and a single board of directors.

In the position of Youth Engagement Counsellor you would be responsible for the following:
  • Assisting in planning, organizing and supervising the continued development of WAYS Youth Engagement strategy and activities.
  • Working with youth leaders and staff advisors on the Youth Engagement Plan and activities.
  • Tracking and maintaining contact with youth who have been past WAYS clients for purposes of determining their interest in participating in Youth Engagement.
  • Assisting in planning, preparation and delivery of program activities.
  • Researching ideas for crafts, leisure activities, intellectual pursuits, musical and artistic programs for youth.
  • Assisting in all set-ups and clean-ups.
  • Liaising with Program Supervisors, collecting, reviewing and overseeing program delivery.
  • Working with youth individually and in small groups to encourage participation.
  • Approaching youth with respect and encouraging them to try new experiences and develop new skills.
  • Promoting a sense of teamwork and communication amongst the Youth Empowerment Team.
 The successful candidate will meet the following:
  • Will be between the ages of 19-30 on the start date of the job.
  • Will have been a Full-Time Student during the previous academic year and is intending to return to full-time studies in the next academic year.
  • Will be working towards a diploma or degree in; Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, Recreation Leadership, Teaching or other applicable area of study.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a refugee under the Immigation and Refugees Protection Act.
  • Must possess a valid class G2 Driver’s License.
