Edgar & Joes Cafe

 
Do you have a passion for good cooking, and a desire to pass on your skills? Our kitchen offers a wholesome environment where you can develop both yourself and others. Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Professional Cook will be responsible for producing high-quality food and promoting culinary expertise. Our kitchen primarily uses from scratch recipes, giving us an opportunity to utilize and hone our skills on a daily basis. We offer a rewarding work environment that is held to the highest food quality standards. 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Preparing high-quality food under the direction of the Executive Chef
  • Design and delivery of custom food items (e.g.: platters for catering events)
  • Adhering to our high culinary, safety and hygiene standards in all aspects of work
  • Operating cooking tools and machinery safely, as required
  • Following to our production schedule in to meet business demands
  • Applying garnishments, decorations, and fresh flourishes
  • Training and coaching co-workers to pass along skills and experience
 
Abilities and Requirements:
 
  • Knowledge and respect for hygiene and safety standards
  • 5+ years of experience as a cook in a restaurant environment
  • Catering experience strongly preferred
  • Credentials (e.g.: Red Seal) an asset but not required
  • Expert-level knowledge of cooking recipes, methodology and best practices
  • Creativity and innovation in developing original recipes
  • Strong organizational skills; able to make decisions independently
  • Motivated and capable of working productively both alone and on a team
  • Strong aptitude for mentoring, training, and sharing knowledge with others
  • Desire to learn and grow, especially with regards to marketing
  • Frequent standing, bending, twisting, kneeling, cutting/slicing, reaching forwards and overhead, sitting, gripping, carrying, pushing and pulling
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 45 lbs.
