Salary:                                   $100,475 (Starting) to $117,575 (at 30 months)


Position Summary:  


The Maintenance Technician works within a small team to provide the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of London Police Service (LPS) buildings and facilities by performing preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs.



Responsibilities:


 
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs to various buildings and facilities owned or operated by the London Police Service (LPS), with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical, and carpentry.

Mechanical:
    • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical systems and equipment.
    • Repair, fabricate and replace defective parts using machining, welding, and fitting expertise.
    • Install equipment in compliance with manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations.
    • Maintain and repair plumbing, HVAC, and compressed air systems.
    • Maintain firearms range.

Electrical:
    • Plan, layout, install, troubleshoot, and repair wiring, fixtures, lighting system apparatus, and control equipment.
    • Plan new or modify existing installations consistent with design specifications and compliance with electrical codes.
    • Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety components.
    • Detect hazards and need for adjustment, relocation, or replacement.
    • Troubleshoot Building Automation.

Carpentry:
    • Maintain and repair existing structures.
    • Construct and renovate new and existing office spaces.
    • Install custom cabinetry, doorframes, windows, ceilings and floors.
    • Install various floor coverings (e.g., tiles, carpets, vinyl, etc.)
    • Install and repair various locks and door hardware.
 
  • Procure quotes, purchase, order, and source materials and parts/supplies.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and summer staff.
  • Create sketches and drawings for facilities projects.
  • Determine design considerations, code compliance, energy savings, material procurement and process planning for both minor and major projects.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all LPS staff and visitors as outlined in the Ontario Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Complete monthly work orders through a preventive maintenance program.
  • Operate a Bobcat, Forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, and LPS vehicles as required.
  • Inspect and maintain Scott Air packs, AED, and fire extinguishers.
  • Assist the City of London Fire Department in an emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned within the core competencies. 


Skills & Qualifications:
 
  • 2 year post-secondary education in Stationary/Building Environmental systems, Electrical, Red Seal Carpentry, or equivalent.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License.
  • 4-5 years’ experience in facilities maintenance (HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or millwork) or a related field.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and judgement required for producing a wide range of products requiring a high degree of accuracy and close tolerances with specific skills required for maintaining a large variety of equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills for regular contact with LPS members and external agencies/contractors to give, obtain and/or exchange, and/or discuss technical information or decisions requiring discussion or explanation to ensure full understanding.


 Effort & Working Conditions:

 
  • Considerable mental and sensory effort required on a regular basis for concentration on precision work and using high visual acuity while making adjustments to precision instruments or equipment.
  • Strenuous work involving considerable physical effort performed on a regular basis.
  • Continuous exposure to disagreeable elements including noise, odours, heat, cold, vibrations, dirt, oil, chemicals, fumes, severe weather, and the need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Works in an on-call environment.
