Please note this is a temporary 3 year contract with benefits. Successful candidates to this position may
perform their work from an alternate location, and are not required to reside in London, Ontario, but must be
available to work on campus on occasion when required. Work location will be confirmed during the
recruitment process, and may be subject to change based on duties required of the position.

About Us

The Western Communications team provides strategic advice to university senior leadership, faculty, staff and
teams of internal and external communications staff across Western in order to build the university’s brand on
a local, national and global scale.

Responsibilities

The Writer, Brand Communications will be responsible for writing compelling, relevant, and original copy
across a range of channels and platforms. In partnership with a team of communications and marketing
experts, the role will create content that captures audience attention, engages the reader, encourages action,
and enhances overall brand reputation. The Writer, Brand Communications will write short and long form copy
with the goal of elevating brand perception, driving conversions, increasing click-through rates, and impacting
other key metrics, while embodying Western’s brand tone of voice.

Qualifications

Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media or related program

Experience:
- 3 years’ experience creating copy for various projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of principles of writing, including grammar and style, argument, and coherence
- Knowledge of marketing best practices, processes, trends, and tools
- Solid understanding of SEO principles, digital marketing and lead generation strategies
- Media skills with solid communications judgment to present and package information to maximize interest
- Compelling and persuasive communication skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the
University
- Ability to analyze metrics and consider past communications to craft engaging written communications
using social media or other appropriate channels
- Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and
social trends
- Innovative and flexible critical thinking skills to adjust to and implement new processes or technology to the
University’s advantage
- Proven ability to research and deliver accurate information in a concise and objective manner
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization, and to value consensus as a desired
outcome
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven ability to build both formal and informal professional relationships within, across, and external to
organizational boundaries
