Job Summary
 
Plans, directs, and implements organization safety program to ensure safe, healthy and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties or through manufacturing supervisors.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Plans and implements safety and procedures in compliance with local, provincial and federal Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and team members in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials including WHMIS
  • Prepares studies and analyses industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies
  • Participates in and inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or prevent access to hazardous conditions
  • Coordinates the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies (WSIB, MOL)
  • Oversees and ensures compliance with changes to the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences, and exhibitions where necessary
  • Maintains safety files and records
  • Member Health and Safety Committee (Management Co-chair)
  • Member ISO 14001 Committee to ensure compliance
  • Provides assistance with Modified Work Program for Vuteq Team Members including follow- up
  • Lead Vuteq with hearing conservation, first aid training, vision care, etc.
  • MSDS – review MSDS for appropriate control programs(ie: PPE, Train Coordinators on handling procedures)
  • Organize and ensure workplace inspections are complete for every area of the plant on regular basis
  • Proactively investigate workplace conditions and provide and implement countermeasures to potential hazards and risk in the workplace
  • Inform management on a regular basis the condition of workplace inspection results and workplace safety condition ( LTA)
  • Present safety information sessions at team meetings and production meetings on a regular basis
  • Provides any necessary training in order to be compliant with Ministry of Labour and Occupational Health & Safety Act
 
 Job Qualifications
 
Education
  • Diploma/Degree from College or University; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
 Training
  • WHMIS, First Aid
 Computer Skills
  • Human Resource systems, Internet software, spreadsheet software
Other Skills
  • Manufacturing experience in an automotive setting is considered a definite asset

Physical Effort and Requirements of this Position
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk, occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effetely present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
 Reasoning Abilities
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
 
Work Environment
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
