Job Description

The London Children’s Museum is looking for a creative, fun, professional and enthusiastic Visitor Experience Animator (VEA) to join our team. Working with the Visitor Experiences Team, the Bilingual VEA will contribute to the development and delivery of outstanding programs, events, birthday parties and more. Position: Full-time, hourly contract position at 37.5 hours per week from June 5, 2017 – September 3, 2017


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional visitor experience and customer service
  • Deliver high-quality, fun and engaging museum programs including birthday parties, daily programming and special events (including the delivery of Canada 150 programming throughout the summer in English and French)
  • Provide programming to visitors in both English and French
  • Deliver onsite education programs (in English and French)
  • Assist with day camp as needed
  • Participate in community outreach programs
  • Provide training and support to volunteers
  • Be a helpful, positive and engaged member of the Children’s Museum staff team
  • Accept all other duties as required
 
Skills:
  • A desire to play and have fun!
  • Enthusiasm for children, families and the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the Children’s Museum
  • Previous experience working with children and families
  • Ability to engage and interact with individuals
  • Interest in STEAM, heritage, culture, museum studies and/or education
  • Desire to work in a distinctly child-centred environment
  • Excellent time management skills, and ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and some Friday evenings
  • Ideal for students focusing on early childhood education, primary/junior education and/or museum studies
 
Position Requirements – Candidates MUST meet all of the following criteria:
  • Bilingual (French)
  • Child & Infant First Aid and CPR training
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Between the ages of 16 and 30 years of age at start of employment (June 3rd, 2017)
  • Completed school term at the start of employment (June 3rd, 2017)
  • A full-time student in the semester preceding the start date
  • Intending to return to full-time studies in the semester following (September 2017)
  • Permanent address is more than 125 km away from the Children’s Museum (financial support for lodging and travel may be available)
  • Registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) online candidate inventory
    • Note: The candidate must not have worked under the YCW grant at the Children’s Museum in the past but could have worked under the YCW Grant at another agency.
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment (June 5- September 3, 2017)
  • Not employed in another full-time position (over 30 hours/week)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act
    • Note: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
 
Education: Enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education.
 
Compensation: $11.40/hour
