The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is home to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Dental Science (DDS) programs (respective 4-year professional degrees), as well as prestigious Postgraduate Medicine and Dental Programs.  Additionally, in collaboration with Western's Ivey School of Business and the Faculty of Health Sciences, Schulich's inter-faculty Masters of Public Health Program offers a Master’s Degree in Public Health, while also offering an undergraduate Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) Program in partnership with the Faculty of Science and MSc and PhD Graduate Programs, in both the Basic and Clinical Sciences.

In conjunction with campus partners, Schulich also offers a combined MD/PhD; partnering with Western's Faculty of Engineering to offer a combined BMSc/BESc and with the Richard Ivey School of Business to offer a combined BMSc/HBA degree.  The Medical Education portfolio at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is comprised of nine distinct programs and is integral to Schulich's mission of providing outstanding education within a research-intensive, distributed learning environment where tomorrow’s physicians learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health locally, regionally and globally.

Working in collaboration with faculty decanal members, and in partnership with the Vice-Dean, Medical Education, the Director, Medical Education is accountable for providing leadership and direction for all operational and administrative aspects of the nine Education programs.  The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the unit, which aligns with Western's overall strategic plan, and will ensure that programs, policies, and procedures are in place to support the realization of the Office’s strategy.  The Director identifies and acts on opportunities for improvement, and ensures that a rich array of programs and services are provided to assist students with critical transitions and decision making throughout their academic careers.

The incumbent will direct and oversee the allocation of financial, technological, human and physical resources, to ensure that programs are properly aligned and focused to optimize efficiency and productivity, and to leverage economic savings in the delivery of the Medical Education’s academic programs.  The Director will provide expertise and coaching to staff, to ensure that highly efficient, client-focused and responsive services are delivered to the University community.  The Director will work with the nine Education Program leaders in translating the academic strategic vision for each program into operational reality.
 
Qualifications:
Education:

-   Master’s Degree in relevant field (e.g. Master of Business Administration, Health Administration, Public Health Administration, Education or Science)
-   PHD in Business or Education is preferred

Experience:
-   10 years’ experience in senior management, project management or financial management in a university or academic environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Excellent interpersonal skills to allow collaboration with a variety of stakeholders (faculty, administrative staff, students, external agencies)
-   Ability to manage multiple projects from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
-   Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
-   Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change management strategies
-   Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
-   Able to adjust quickly to new demands & conditions with strong change management skills
-   A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
-   Demonstrated ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
-   Strong written & verbal communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
-   Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
-   Ability to coach employees and support them to be self-directed and responsible for their own development and learning
-   Influential interpersonal skills that build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
-   Ability to interpret information and implement accordingly
-   Sensitivity to cross-cultural differences and norms
-   Advanced business acumen (Finance and Human Resources)
-   Intermediate skills in Microsoft office suite of software applications, PeopleSoft applications, Novell Groupwise, web-based applications, etc.
