Job Description

Presstran Industries, a division of Magna International located in St. Thomas, Ontario, has developed an enviable reputation as a supplier to the automotive industry known for the high quality of its product and the excellence of its service. Presstran's lines of automotive stampings and welding assemblies are used in front motor compartments, underbody structures, truck frame components and front and rear suspensions as well as non-automotive applications
 
The Stamping Lead Hand coordinates the daily production activities of the team with respect to job assignment and job rotation to ensure quality standards and production schedules are achieved.  They maintain a clean and safe working environment, monitor timekeeping and attendance, and performs some administrative duties.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Equivalent to completion of high school and/or related work experience
  2. Must possess time management, leadership, communication, organizational and presentation skills
  3. Ability to understand, anticipate, follow and provide direction while exercising maturity of judgement.
  4. Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact.
  5. Strong time management, leadership, communication, organizational and presentation skills
  6. Must successfully complete required training provided by Presstran (i.e. the operation of cranes, lift trucks)
  7. Automated transfer press, coil line operation and blank de-stacking system experience.
  8. Must be computer literate.
  9. Physically capable of performing essential duties of the job.
  10. Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs.
  11. Ability to work all three shifts, as required.
 
DUTIES:
  1. Monitors and adheres to production schedule and adapts to any changes.
  2. Instructs and organizes the department workforce for required daily activities.
  3. Ensures that all safety devices are checked at the start of each shift and that results are recorded.
  4. Ensures appropriate first-off procedures for all processes are followed.
  5. Ensures that all production paperwork is accurate (i.e. process parameters, production sheets, OA boards, etc.).
  6. Continually monitors production for quality, breakdowns or problems and maintains production analysis boards.
  7. Fills out NCR’s correctly and in a timely manner and ensures that parts are tagged accordingly.
  8. Ability to operate production equipment, as required.
  9. Liaison between Production Team and Department Leadership.
  10. First contact for support departments (i.e. Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, Materials, etc.).
  11. Ensures fairness to direct reports, and encourages and participates in the Open Door Resolution Process for employee relation issues
  12. Participates when required to investigate all non-conformance to Company polices/procedures/rules/regulations and provides the Supervisor information and documentation for corrective action.
  13. Effectively builds and fosters teamwork within the department
  14. Develops and maintains peer relationships
  15. Performance Management - teaches, coaches and mentors employees to meet company expectations.
  16. Provides input into the Performance Reviews
  17. Ensures employees are trained or certified, as required and participates in training programs as required
  18. Conducts pre-shift meetings to communicate Safety People Quality Production information and to promote involvement in issues affecting employees or their work areas.
  19. Follows HS-16 Accident/Incident Investigation Procedure
  20. Ensures subcontractors are performing work safely while in their work areas/zones
  21. Participates in the Return-to-Work program and ensures employees work within their R-T-W plan.
  22. Reviews and assists with implementation of continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people processes and equipment/machinery.

Equipment:  Various production equipment and machinery, various hand tools, etc.
 
RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Under the general direction of the department supervisor, the Lead hand performs a variety of tasks as directed. The incumbent requires excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal in order to exchange, collect, and verify information. The lead hand is exposed to elements such as temperature and noise.
