Presstran Industries, a division of Magna International located in St. Thomas, Ontario, has developed an enviable reputation as a supplier to the automotive industry known for the high quality of its product and the excellence of its service. Presstran's lines of automotive stampings and welding assemblies are used in front motor compartments, underbody structures, truck frame components and front and rear suspensions as well as non-automotive applications.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
This six (6) month temporary contract position, reporting to the Ergonomics Coordinator, Ergonomic Support is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the facility ergonomic management systems, to ensure equipment and work methods are designed to minimize and/or eliminate ergonomic risk hazards, while maintaining, and improving quality and productivity.  The Ergonomic Support backs the Joint Health, Safety, Ergonomics and Environmental Committee and production departments on ergonomic activities and initiatives. They work closely with the Health and Wellness team to reintegrate injured personnel to the workplace.
 
RECOMMENDED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Working knowledge of Ergonomic principles, recognized ergonomic guidelines, ERA’s and design checklists;
  2. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Legislation an asset;
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team;
  4. Ability to exercise tact, discretion, good judgment and strict confidentiality;
  5. Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, time-management and problem solving skills;
  6. Must possess human relations, leadership skills and maturity of judgement;
  7. Computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, window and web-based applications.
 
DUTIES:
  1. Receive, follow up, and direct or respond to employee queries in a timely and professional manner;
  2. Support the Engineering teams through proactive design analysis and Ergonomics recommendations of new and current processes;
  3. Attends Engineering meetings to review designs and validate adherance to build standards;
  4. Collaborate with various departments or other resources to implement effective corrective actions to eliminate ergonomic hazards;
  5. Assist with research and development of ergonomic related policies and procedures;
  6. Collect videos and measurements as directed by Ergonomics Coordinator.
  7. Acts as an active supporting resource to the Joint Health, Safety, Ergonomics and Environmental Committee by preparing the agenda, presenting findings and recording meeting minutes;
  8. Provides and/or coordinates the appropriate ergonomics training to necessary members of Leadership, the production staff and members of the JHSEEC;
  9. Ensure compliance with Magna Ergonomics Metrics Program;
  10. Liase with Magna Corporate pertaining to any reporting requirements;
  11. Maintain business files and records in accordance with legislative and company standards;
  12. Manage time effectively in order to complete all tasks.

 Equipment:      Force Gauge, ergonomic measurement tools, PC, printer, facsimile machine, photocopier, paper shredder, telephone, camera, video equipment, etc.
Software:          Microsoft Office, Document Manager, WATBAK, 3DSSPP, UMEEP, Parklane, Part Manager, EFMEA, NIOSH, etc.
 
RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Ergonomic Support  works under the general direction of the Ergonomic Coordinator, performing a variety of health and safety tasks. The work requires independent judgment and knowledge with understanding of department/plant functions.  The Ergonomics Support must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written to exchange and/or collect information from a variety of contacts (internal and external). They must uphold and maintain all confidential information as described in the Employee Confidentiality Agreement. The Ergonomic Support works both in an office environment and throughout the plant area where there is exposure to workplace elements such as temperature and noise.
