position summary

Responsible for preparing estimates; controlling expenditures and evaluating feasibility of meeting client requirements by reviewing estimate requests, design drawings and specifications and gathering information on labour, material, time and price quotes.

key responsibilities

research / gathering data

• reviewing estimate requests, design drawings and specifications with appropriate personnel to understand the project and gather necessary information
• identifying and gathering information on labour, material and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, related documents and collaboration with other team members
• obtaining price quotes from vendors/suppliers

prepare estimates

• completing timely and accurate estimates from floor plans, sketches, models, renderings, oral and written descriptions, and other sources of information
• breaking down projects into components as required by sales and/or the customer
• maintaining documentation and records to support projected cost of project
• keeping current on changes in production methods, material, labour costs and other standards
• evaluating feasibility of meeting client requirements 
• obtain quotes/estimates from sub-contractors

control expenditures/project management

• setting up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
• preparing cost, expenditure statements and forecasts at specified intervals for the duration of a project
• preparing and maintaining a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
• liaising and consulting with team members and preparing economic feasibility reports on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
• managing and coordinating construction projects and preparing construction progress schedules

required skills/experience/education

• knowledge of all phases of exhibit design and production (or similar industry) and pricing standards 
• ability to extract pertinent data from oral and written information and standard visual sources
• completion of a secondary school and several years experience as a qualified estimator in the construction trade
• completion of a 3 year college program in civil or construction engineering technology
• excellent mathematical skills, excel skills and related talents
• ability to work in a high pressure fast paced environment
