Summary:

 Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities.

Role:

Reporting to an onsite Coordinator or Supervisor, the Adult Art Program Instructor is responsible for leading high-quality recreation programs at specific site locations throughout the City of London. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring recreation programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead high quality recreation programs that ensure participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment.
  • Create and implement program plans with the support of resources provided by Supervisors.
  • Willingness to play the sport if required based on capacity.
  • Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, injuries, and safety checks.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, the public, school personnel and co-workers.
  • Communicate program supply needs to Coordinator/Supervisor as required.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to the Coordinator/Supervisor.
  • Assist with the distribution of program literature as required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with adults in a recreation environment, with a minimum of one year teaching experience an asset.
  • Standard First Aid (prior to the start of the program)
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program)
     

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Experience working with children, youth and/or adults with special needs an asset. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).

Weekday and/or weeknight shifts available.

Pay Range: $23.00 - $31.00 per hour
