Job Description
The purpose of the Afternoon Shift Supervisor, Welder/Fitter is to supervise and assist manpower in the fitting and weld crane components. This is a working supervisor role. The Afternoon Shift Supervisor, Welder/Fitter will interact with employees in the Crane Assembly Area while reporting to the Production/Facility Manager.

The Afternoon Shift Supervisor, Welder/Fitter is accountable for the following:
- Supervision of afternoon employees for the safe and efficient production of quality cranes.
- Quality welding and fitting true to supplied manufacturing drawings.
The Afternoon Shift Supervisor, Welder/Fitter is responsible for performing the following:
- Supervision of aprox 5-10 welder fitters during the afternoon shift
- Ensuring accurate material and labour costs allocated to each project
- Addressing employee performance related issues should they be required
- Fabrication of welded box girders
- Welding of flange/web splices, installation of diaphragms, assembly of girders, internal welding of diaphrams/stiffeners, installing and tacking of flange in preparation for SAW welding
- Finish welding of cranes (profile and box girder style) after initial alignment
- Fit and weld additional components (brackets, catwalks, railings, etc)
- Finish welding all connections
- Completion of quality documentation as related to the work performed
- Dimensional verification of girder components prior to fitting
- Inspecting incoming material
- Inventory Control
- Daily maintenance and lubrication of equipment and machinery
- Other duties as assigned

- Use or operate equipment in a safe manner
- Report defects in equipment
- Maintaining a safe working environment
- Ensure employees are working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Report any known workplace hazards or contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to their supervisor or employer
- Be aware of their rights under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including the right to refuse unsafe work and the right to know about any potential hazards to which they may be exposed in the workplace.
ABILITIES
- Personel managment
- Thorough knowledge of the OHSA
- Fit-up techniques and tolerances
- Welding procedures and practices including welding symbols
- Achieving welding qualification to required standards Flux Core Arc Welding (F.C.A.W.) in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions and Metal Core Arc Welding (M.C.A.W.)
- May be asked to achieve qualifications in S.A.W.
- Weld appearance in accordance with applicable weld procedure data sheets
- Reading and interpreting prints and bills
- Material characteristics and requirements, i.e.: thickness, width, sweep and camber tolerances as it applies to cranes
- Operation and limitations of all machinery and equipment in area
- Material handling techniques, use of cranes, slings, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Secondary school diploma or high school equivalent as a minimum
- Welders certificate or ticket
- Maintain a level of education necessary to keep pace with new manufacturing technology and company requirements
- Weld shop supervisory experience prefered
