Anago is currently recruiting a summer student for the position of Recreation and Leisure Coordinator in an open detention facility.  The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating one "in house" activity and one "in the community" activity every day.  These activities will incorporate literacy, employment skills, learning social values, norms and cultural awareness.  In addition to providing individualized programming for the youth, the student will offer supervised and collaborative opportunities for youth to learn new skills and gain new experiences.  Shifts will be variable including evenings and weekends.
 
Qualifications:
  • Able to establish therapeutic relationships on the basis of respect and trust
  • Demonstrated understanding of support requirements specific to individuals with complex needs
  • Support individuals with daily living while pursuing leisure and recreational opportunities
  • Ability to write clear, concise observations of daily activities and interactions
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to achieve goals
  • Proven computer skills, Microsoft Office preferred
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make independent decisions based on Policies & Procedures
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills; attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of the team
  • Current Police Records Check & Vulnerable Position Screening
  • Pursuing post secondary education in a related field or equivalent
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have some experience working in a residential setting and/or with individuals with complex and high behavioural needs.
 
Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
 
Work Location:           King Street Detention Centre – London, ON
 
Wage:                          $15.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
