Summary:
Reporting to the Child, Youth and Family Well-Being Director, the Prevention Focused Customary Care Supervisor provides leadership and day-to-day supervision to Prevention Focused Customary Care Workers to ensure high-quality, culturally grounded supports for families and the safety and well-being of children and youth in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation. This role coordinates service delivery, wellness planning, and resources (including financial supports where applicable) to strengthen family resilience and ensure wraparound care. The Supervisor works in alignment with applicable legislation, regulations, and CYFWBS policies and procedures, and upholds the Mission, Beliefs, and Vision of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation and the Administration’s mandates.
Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise a team of Prevention Focused Customary Care Workers, providing day-to-day guidance, coaching, and direction.
Provide monthly supervision, including review of family wellness plans, service needs, and financial supports.
Support workers to connect families to needed services and resources (e.g., parenting, budgeting, counselling, addictions, health care, education, housing).
In collaboration with workers, advocate for children, youth, and families at risk of or involved with child welfare, ensuring rights are upheld and voices are heard.
Ensure individualized wellness/service plans are developed, implemented, and updated for families in the program.
Ensure monthly family visits are completed and documented in accordance with program requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, Elders, service providers, schools, and partner agencies to support wraparound care.
Ensure service delivery is culturally grounded, reflecting First Nation values, traditions, and practices.
Lead or participate in case conferences/case reviews with internal and external service providers as required.
Monitor program implementation and outcomes; collect data/feedback and support continuous improvement of services.
Support development and implementation of program policies and procedures, engaging staff in improvement processes.
Develop (with the team) an annual work plan and budget, and monitor spending to remain within approved budgets.
Complete and oversee accurate case documentation, files, consents, and reporting, ensuring confidentiality and safe record-keeping.
Use CaseWorx/case management software to support program delivery, documentation, and data compliance/reporting.
Provide monthly/quarterly reports to the CYFWB Director; ensure staff reporting is completed, and escalate serious incidents/risk matters as required while working in compliance with OHSA and COTTFN policies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) is preferred; a degree in Native Studies/Indigenous Studies or a related field will be considered.
A College Diploma in Social Services, Native Studies/Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline will also be considered.
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience working in First Nation communities and demonstrated understanding of community context and culturally grounded approaches.
Experience supporting children, youth, and families involved with, or at risk of involvement with, the child welfare system.
Demonstrated experience in case management, advocacy, and developing family-centred wellness/service plans.
Ability to understand and speak Anishnaabemowin is a strong asset (or demonstrated commitment to learning).
Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Valid Ontario G driver’s licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
Ability to provide a clear CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Minimum $1,000,000 automobile liability insurance coverage.
