Civil Engineering Intern

SBM is currently seeking a structural design intern to work with our engineering staff in the commercial and residential building design divisions of our London office for 16 months. The Civil Intern will be responsible for assisting with the progression of a wide variety of civil engineering projects including subdivisions, site developments, and municipal projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with civil engineering
- Preparation of civil engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design requirements
- Work collaboratively with team members on projects to support project milestones and deliverables
- Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff
- When required, preparation/review of tender/contract documents
- When required, complete site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
- Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
- Coordinate Civil aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings
Qualifications:
- Completed a minimum of two years towards Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent, and enrolled to complete the Degree
- Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines, the Ontario Building Code, and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered an asset
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites
- Effective written and verbal communication skills

Compensation:
This is a full-time temporary position consisting of a 16-month placement with a competitive salary. SBM offers a positive working environment and a good relationship with our employees which translates directly to better customer service and a superior finished product for our clients. The successful candidate will typically work 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-2:30pm on Fridays.
