SUMMARY
This is a summer position for general maintenance supporting and working with the Airport Operations team. This position is
shift
work
, typically weekdays but some weekend work may be required. We are currently looking for 2 students with work starting sometime in May through to end of summer.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Summer Student
Reporting to the Foreman and/or Trades
Performing routine maintenance of airport maintenance equipment, including replenishment and/or replacement of lubricants/filters, fueling and changing of attachments.
Maintain landscaping services on airport property and contracted sites.
Operating heavy, medium, and small equipment for maintenance jobs.
Provide escorting for airfield activities.
Paint groundside parking lot lines, curbs, billiards, etc. for airport own property and contracted sites.
Completing cleaning tasks (i.e., washing windows, power washing sidewalks and building, etc.) on airport owned facilities and contracted sites.
Assist the Maintenance & Emergency Services (MES) team, performing crack sealing and sweeping of groundside airport property and contracted sites.
Assist the MES team in regulated maintenance work on runway, taxiway, and aprons.
Assist the MES team in complete repairs to airport owned facilities.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
This position requires:
Ontario Grade 12 or equivalent.
Ontario G driver’s license or equivalent.
Transport Canada security clearance, a restricted radio operator permits, and airside vehicle operator’s permit are required to be completed at the employer within 30 days of hire.
GENERAL
REQUIREMENTS
Requires learning and maintaining knowledge of the hazards associated with work in the vicinity of aircraft.
Must be capable of adapting to a rapidly changing work environment, including changing weather conditions and task assignments. Must make independent decisions to prevent potentially hazardous and/or costly situations from occurring or continuing.
Requires alertness; the ability to remain calm and in normal and emergency or compromised situations.
Good communications and teamwork are especially critical to the safety and success of the position.
Requires the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new procedures & regulations, safety precautions, and job functions.
Must work in close proximity to active runways and aircraft maneuvering areas. Activities are carried out regardless of weather or working conditions (within required safety standards).
Exposed to hazards normally associated with industrial settings, heavy equipment operations, airport airside and groundside operations as well as noise and heat from equipment.
Frequent and prolonged periods outside in all forms of weather day and night.
