Job Description
CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAM FACILITATOR ( 1 position- Summer only )
LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre dedicated to fostering inclusiveness and well being through the delivery of compassionate, responsive programs and services for individuals experiencing adversity.
We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.
Position Details:
This is a
SUMMER POSITION
(35 hours per week). The Child & Youth Program Facilitator will work alongside LUSO’s full time Literacy Program Facilitator and Youth Outreach Worker to deliver various programs to support children ( 4-11), youth ( 12-19) and families living in NE London and Argyle area. The Program Facilitator will provide support with program development, implementation, outreach and data collection.
Commitment
:
The position is
35 hours
per week for 8 weeks starting Thursday July 2, 2026 until Friday
August 28, 2026.
Successful candidate must be available to commit to the full 8 weeks of
employment.
Hours of Work:
Generally, Monday to Friday.
The candidate must be available to work early evenings
This position is working with children and families and requires flexibility to accommodate programming
needs.
Rate of Pay
: $18.25 per hour plus mandatory benefits
Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs position, applicant must be:
Between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
International and Foreign students are
not eligible
for the positions (funding is provided by the Federal Government of Canada)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
SHARED BEGINNINGS:
a parent-child literacy based program that supports newcomers, immigrants, single parent and low literacy level families with children ages 0-6 to develop literacy and numeracy skills. The program is offered 2 mornings per week at community locations
BOOKS & BREAKFAST
- plan weekly activities for children ages 4-12. The Program Facilitator will assist the Literacy Coordinator to create activities to engage children attending LUSO’s Breakfast program with continue literacy development
FAMILY LITERACY EVENTS
: bi-weekly literacy themed and skill building activities for families with children up to 12 years of age. Events will take place at various community locations within NE London
PRISM ART
: an art based program with literacy components to ensure continued literacy and numeracy development during summer months. Program is geared for youth ages 8-12.
FAMILY PRISM ART
: an interactive parent-child program for families with children up to 8 years of age. Activities support literacy development and language comprehension within the context of an art based program.
KITCHEN KIDS:
This program is for children ages 8-12 and includes activities to help children develop literacy and numeracy skills through cooking.
KINDERCOOKS:
This program is for families with children up to 7 years of age and includes activities to help children develop literacy and numeracy skills through cooking
YOUTH CHEFS:
program helps youth learn basic cooking skills. The Program Facilitator will support the program by co-facilitating sessions as well as support with menu planning, shopping for materials
LEADERSHIP PROGRAM:
support youth to develop leadership skills through community engagement activities
OUTREACH & PROMOTION
: assist with promotion of programs, through various outreach activities in NE London.
ADMINISTRATIVE WORK:
assist with maintaining statistics for the various programs, including attendance, demographics, conducting program surveys etc
OTHER DUTIES
assigned by direct Supervisors within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to individuals who were in school during the 2025-2026 academic year; and/or will be returning to school for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Post-secondary program related to human and social services
Must be comfortable working in a community setting and interacting in person
Previous experience working with children, youth and families, in particular working with children 4-11 and youth 12-19 years of age
Must be able to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
Must be organized, and have efficient work habits
Possess good time management and problem solving skills
Must be highly energetic, empathetic, creative and reliable
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work independently and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
A
bility to lift a minimum of 20 pounds on a regular basis
Access to a car an asset as programming is at various locations in the community.
Current Vulnerable Police Records Screening required before commencing employment.
Priority for positions will be given to groups under-represented in the labour market such as: new immigrant/refugee youth, visible minorities/racialized youth and LGBTQ2 youth.
