NEIGHBOURHOOD WORKER ( 1 Position- Summer)
LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre dedicated to fostering inclusiveness and well being through the delivery of compassionate, responsive programs and services for individuals experiencing adversity.
We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.
Reporting
: The Neighbourhood Worker
will work directly with and report to the Basic Needs & Community Support Coordinator.
Position Details:
This is a
SUMMER POSITION
(
35 hours per week). The Neighbourhood Worker will
work alongside LUSO’s full time Basic Needs Coordinator to deliver services that support families in NE
London and Argyle. This position requires in-person support with community members.
Commitment
:
The position is
35 hours
per week for 8 weeks starting Thursday July 2, 2026 until Friday
August 28, 2026.
Successful candidate must be available to commit to the full 8 weeks of
employment.
Hours of Work:
Generally, Monday to Friday, 8:00/8:30 until 3:30/4:00 pm. Some flexibility required for
possible evenings and the occasional weekend
Rate of Pay
: $18.25 per hour plus mandatory benefits
Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs position, applicant must be:
Between 15-30 years of age
at the start of employment
Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
International and Foreign students are not eligible for the positions
(funding is provided by the Federal Government of Canada)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summer Breakfast Program-
daily program offered to children and youth in the community during July and August. Program operates 8:00-11:00 and provides breakfast to children impacted by poverty.
The Neighbourhood Worker will assist with set up, clean up, meal planning, shopping etc.
Community Support Portable
-provide basic needs support to families accessing the portable that are impacted by poverty. Portable offers services such as: emergency food access, baby good and diapers, clothing as well as providing information, referrals etc. Neighbourhood Worker will assist with all aspects.
Mobile Food Bank-
the Neighbourhood Worker will support the operations of the Mobile Food Bank that operated every Wednesday and Friday to support low income residents in NE London and Argyle communities. Duties will include setting up, cleaning up, client intake, food distribution, maintaining necessary statistics.
Food Security initiatives-
The Neighbourhood Worker will support the Basic Needs Coordinator with duties and responsibilities associated with LUSO's participation in a number of London initiatives to reduce food waste. This will include picking up food, distribution of food, attending planning meetings
related to these initiative
Community Events
- the Neighbourhood Worker will support the Basic Needs Coordinator to organize and implement a variety of community events during July and August that promotes community and resident engagement, and provide social interaction opportunities amongst vulnerable and isolated populations
Administrative work-
assist with maintaining statistics for the various programs, including attendance, demographics, etc.
Other duties
assigned by the Basic Needs Coordinator within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to individuals who were in school during the 2025-2026 academic year; and/or will be returning to school for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Post-secondary program related to human and social services
Must be comfortable working in a community setting and interacting in-person
Previous experience working with children, youth and families
Must be able to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds
Must be organized, and have efficient work habits
Possess good time management and problem solving skills
Must be highly energetic, empathetic, creative and reliable
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work independently and accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds on a regular basis
Access to a car on a regular basis is an asset, as programming is at various locations in the community.
Current Vulnerable Police Records Screening required or ability to obtain prior to commencing employment.
Priority for positions will be given to groups under-represented in the labour market such as: new immigrant/refugee youth, visible minorities/racialized youth and LGBTQ2 youth.
