SENIOR MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

SALARY RANGE: $79,140 - $104,660
HIRING RANGE: $79,140 - $101,009

POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Maintenance Supervisor is accountable to provide the leadership ensuring proper planning, installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, and repairs to all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems and associated equipment, components and related processes at all TVDSB facilities, including all associated legislative requirements. The incumbent has shared accountability for achieving the department’s strategic goals, while ensuring an efficient, safe, and well-maintained environment, and reliable delivery of these services for all students, staff, and the community.
The role also strives to maintain a high level of customer service supported by an effective continuous improvement program, playing an integral role in strategic planning, managing change, and developing staff leadership capacity. This includes ensuring staff are trained and supported to protect against injury, facility damage and loss of school program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Effectively organize staff activities to optimize the unit’s efficiency by establishing goals and objectives, work procedures, specifications and performance standards. This includes the development and implementation of schedules and procedures for both building and infrastructure safety inspections, preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Maintain excellent communication with staff and provide support, performance feedback and technical advice. This includes the demonstration of strong, interpersonal skills through integrity, trust, respect, and personal regard shown through interactions with both staff and stakeholders. Foster a culture of ongoing learning, innovation, continuous improvement and an openness to change through teamwork, collaboration and shared accountability.
  • Select, train, motivate, supervise and coach staff through team meetings and personal contact to provide an excellent service-oriented team. Delegate responsibilities manage performance and conduct issues, complete performance appraisals and goal setting activities. This includes supporting the development of staff to build on their strengths and areas for growth to assess their progress towards the Department and Board goals.
  • Monitor and effectively administer the Maintenance department’s operating budget, including assisting in budget preparation, tracking, and the approval of expenditures made by departmental staff.
  • Coordinate, direct, and monitor external agencies and vendors for various request for proposals (RFP) and tenders.
  • Manage and support the complex scheduling and supervision of 24-hour shifts and emergency response protocols to protect against facility damage and plant failure which would lead to school closure. Respond to maintenance emergencies if needed at any time during or outside the normal work day.
  • Ensure safe, reliable operation of electrical/plumbing/HVAC systems, associated equipment, and components. This includes an effective stewardship program for capital infrastructure that identifies, estimates, and defines the urgency of major repairs and restoration needs.
  • Provide support to the Facility Services Capital Projects team with projects and maintenance issues.
  • Foster and maintain constructive relationships with union officials and staff through consistent application of relevant policies, collective agreements and employment legislation.
  • Provide superior customer service by understanding needs and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders. Provide appropriate resources to allow for the efficient resolution of issues to minimize adverse impacts to students and staff.
  • Contributes to the overall success of Facility Services by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Completion of three (3) year degree or diploma in engineering technology or building operations, or completion of a two (2) year diploma combined with a valid recognized licenced trade certification.
Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience and abilities in maintenance management or facility services, including a minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment, or leading work teams.

Demonstrates computer proficiency with CMMS programs, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.

The position requires frequent use of the employee’s personal vehicle for travel to Board sites. All applicable travel is reimbursed according to Board policy and procedures using the Board’s posted mileage rate.
