Drawing on extensive research and business experience, Ivey equips students with the knowledge and capabilities to confidently take on business leadership challenges and opportunities. Ivey offers an HBA, MSc and MBA degree program at its London, Ontario campus of which this position of Career Advisor (CA) will be based on a full-time basis to interact with students.  
 
Ivey Career Management (CM) operates as a Professional Services department within Ivey Business School. The CA role is to provide career support to students in the HBA and MSc programs so they can market themselves and the Ivey brand within several industries. There is a strong commitment within CM to developing our students’ knowledge, communications skills and professionalism practices.
 
 
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
In the role of the MSc Career Advisor & Program Lead, the individual will work with other members of the Student Coaching team to develop and deliver an integrated suite of Career Management (CM) services and programming. This work is focused on helping MSc students create and implement an individualized career strategy, which can position them to achieve success in securing full-time roles. This position will also collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to develop relevant and timely programming that takes into account student feedback and firm insights around student performance.
 
  1. Creation and Delivery of Curriculum Programming: The MSc Career Advisor & Program Lead will hold responsibility for the input, development and delivery of in class CM curriculum and clinic programming for all MSc students, which includes teaching up to 75 students in a class. You will work with key stakeholders for the continued development and refinement of programming and initiatives to support MSc students in their career objectives.
     
  2. Coaching Students:The MSc Career Advisor & Program Lead works closely with students through in-class teaching, clinics and individual appointments, to develop their individual career strategy and help them communicate effectively about their interests and backgrounds in a number of professional settings. You will introduce frameworks throughout the student life cycle to help them self-assess, build a plan and implement the next steps in their strategy, challenging their thinking and holding them accountable for their progress.  This work with students ensures that they are prepared and qualified as competitive and differentiated candidates for the positions that they seek within a variety of industries.
     
  3. Internal Relationship Management:In order to ensure the successful timing and content of CM programming and events throughout the year, you will be accountable for interacting and communicating with stakeholders within Ivey. Key stakeholders that you will interact with on the CM team are our Executive Director, Senior Career Advisor, the MBA Student Coaching team, Operations, and the Client Relations team. You will also interact with and act as the main point of contact for the MSc Programs Office, student clubs, and MSc Admissions. In addition, you will be responsible for collaborating with the MSc Admissions Office on conducting admission interviews with potential candidates and participating in the decision-making process around admittance.  

 
SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  1. Undergraduate University Degree with experience in an HR, Executive Coaching, Career Management, Outplacement or Executive Search role; experience in Training & Development, Employee Relations, Corporate Communications or Recruitment is considered an asset.
  2. Knowledge of career planning and career development principles along with excellent knowledge of the North American business and job market.
  3. Clear understanding and demonstrated interest in coaching principles.
  4. Strong presentation skills: the ability to deliver multi-faceted educational programs that include teaching in large (up to 75) and small groups in an interactive classroom setting
  5. Track record of success as a team player: must be comfortable self-managing a diverse workload, but understand the necessity for team collaboration.
  6. Creativity and initiative: ability to see alternatives outside the box; new ways of delivering service and building relationships. Takes initiative on projects by collaborating with other members of the team and asking questions.
  7. Resourceful, adaptable and comfort with ambiguity: ability to deal with changing situations, take in information quickly, remain professional and provide relevant recommendations in a timely manner.
  8. Professional presence:  ability to manage clients/stakeholders in a timely, efficient and respectful manner.  Despite the difficulties that may arise or the personalities that may be present – have an ability to position self as a credible professional is critical.
  9. Stakeholder Management:  in this role, students, faculty, our corporate partners and the broader CM teams’ objectives are always a top consideration in our decision making and communications planning.
  10. Demonstrated team player: MUST be comfortable self-managing a diverse workload, but understand the necessity for team collaboration for this important role that is a critical contributor to the school and our students’ reputations.   

This is a 2 year renewable contract position with full benefits.
