The Opportunity 

The Communications Officer will support the planning and delivery of integrated communications to key groups such as donors and prospects, volunteers, media and community members across Elgin and Middlesex; plan, write and edit print and digital content for a variety of channels including event marketing materials, websites, social media and fundraising tools; and coordinate project work including schedules, workflow, documentation and team efforts.

Compensation Structure: Based on the salary band for this role, external candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $46,000 - $54,000 ($25.27 - $29.67 per hour). When determining the wage, we consider the market, candidate experience, as well as internal equity. Additionally, United Way also offers:

Location: London office | Travel within Elgin & Middlesex Counties  may be required 

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. | Schedule is flexible to reflect meetings outside of regular business hours.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • Post-secondary credentials in marketing, communications, journalism, or similar field of study, or a comparable combination of education and experience
  • Strong writing skills including the ability to produce content for a wide variety of audiences, channels and platforms and copyedit for accuracy, style and brand experience 
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Adept social media user and content creator
  • Video, photography, marketing automation, and web update skills are an asset
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in a related role; experience in the non-profit sector preferred but not required
  • Experience working at a communications and marketing agency or a production environment is an asset 
  • Possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset but not required

Primary Responsibilities
  • Write and produce donor-facing print, digital and social media materials including: 
    • fundraising event and campaign materials
    • impact stories about program participants, donors, and volunteers
    • brand awareness stories and materials 
    • annual report, thank-you letters, emails and cards
    • media relations (media releases and maintain contacts list)
  • Edit and proofread to ensure communications are correct and on-brand
  • Contribute to strategy development and project planning
  • Work with team members to produce branded materials 
  • Manage and coordinate multichannel marketing and communications projects as assigned, such as:
    • fundraising events  
    • seasonal, issue-based or awareness campaigns
    • individual print and digital communications and marketing tactics 
  • Manage project flow, meet timelines and adhere to budgets 
  • Coordinate team members to ensure communications are on-brand, correct and timely
  • Secure feedback and approvals
  • Participate in tracking and measurement
  • Perform other duties as needed to ensure the safe and effective operations of the organization
