Summary of Duties

Reports to and carries out work under the direction of a designated manager. Coordinates the planning, design and construction of the City’s parks and open space projects. Gathers data, conducts public engagement, prepares designs, estimates costs, prepares tender documents, and coordinates park and open space development projects by consultants, contractors, or City staff. Provides contract administration, site supervision, technical and professional advice, and conducts public presentations for planning and development projects.

Work Performed

Serves as the project coordinator for capital projects from planning to implementation, including research, coordination with others, design concept, public engagement, detailed design, cost estimates, tender, site supervision, contract administration, budget control, scheduling, inspection and payment.

 

Attends and may chair meetings with other Divisional staff, other City Divisions, consultants, contractors, community groups, individuals, and other agencies to plan, discuss, and coordinate capital projects.

 

Reviews the work performed by consultants completing projects in respect to identified needs and City standards.

 

Conducts or coordinates field studies (e.g. Environmental, Engineering, Archaeological, Surveying, etc.) to record technical information for project investigations, status updates and studies.

 

Prepares and sends out public notices in accordance with City Policy and procedures for parks and open space projects for Parks Planning Division, and for other City divisions’ projects as required.

 

Facilitates, develops, prepares for, and coordinates various public meetings, open houses, workshops, design charrettes, surveys and web questionnaires.

 

Prepares written reports and presentations for Committees of Council, Advisory Committees, various steering committees, UCC, and Manager.

 

Prepares bidding documents and provide technical specifications for inclusion in Request for Quotations, Request for Proposals, and Tenders issued by the Purchasing and Supply Division and participates in the evaluation of proposals as required.

 

Reviews and provides comments on drawing submissions for plans of subdivision and site plans in relation to the mandate of the Parks Planning Division, development conditions, special provisions, and City standards.

 

Reviews and updates parks and open space design standards for the City of London Standard Contract Documents for Municipal Construction Projects, Parks Database, and City asset inventories.

 

Provides technical and professional advice to others in the Environmental and Parks Planning section, Planning Division, and other City Service Areas, as required.

 

Provides input into setting priorities for capital investments for life cycle renewal of City assets.

 

Maintains a current understanding of changes to and applies provincial legislation requirements related to construction projects.

 

Reviews and recommends new products for approval.

 

Provides technical guidance and direction to co-op students as required.

 

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

A Degree in Landscape Architecture or related field.

 

Experience

 

Two years related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

 

Eligibility to be an Associate Member of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects.
Demonstrated knowledge of construction practices, including Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

 

Valid Driver’s Licence – Class G.

Compensation and Other Information

$50,180 - $72,067 (Level 12)

 

Other Information
Current hours of Work:  Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
