Education Specialist
The London Children’s Museum is looking for a passionate, professional and engaging Education Specialist to join our team for a four-month contract. Reporting to the Director of Visitor Experiences, the Education Specialist will contribute to the administration and delivery of outstanding, hands-on education programs at the Children’s Museum and in classrooms throughout the region. This team member will identify with and exemplify our organizational values which are: Stay Curious, Be Awesome, Be Helpful, Dream Big, Include Everyone and Have Fun.
Position: Hourly, contract position at approximately 25-30 hours per week
Date: March 2, 2020 – June 26, 2020, with the possibility of extension
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver high-quality, Ontario Curriculum-connected on-site education programs to students K-Gr 5
• Coordinate and support the delivery of in-class education programming for students K-Gr 6
• Coordinate and deliver week-long Museum School programs
• Develop STEAM-based public programs for children and families
• Ensure all programming is in line with the London Children’s Museum mission, vision and pedagogy
• Coordinate and track all education program bookings
• Act as a liaison with schools, teachers, educators and education-based community groups
• Support the overall visitor experience through the delivery of daily public programming including Star Shows and exhibit upkeep
• Deliver community outreach programs as needed
Skills & Requirements:
• Bachelor of Education in primary/junior, Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent experience delivering programs to school-age children
• Demonstrated ability to deliver programs with an inquiry-based, hands-on approach
• Demonstrated understanding of the experiential learning philosophy practiced by the Children’s Museum
• Love of learning, inspiring exploration and igniting curiosity
• Passion for science, art, culture and/or heritage
• Desire to work in a distinctly child-centred environment
• Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
• Access to a vehicle is an asset
