Full-Time Medical Laboratory Technician

For more than 30 years, the London InterCommunity Health Centre has provided health and social services to those who experience barriers to care including poverty, homelessness, language or culture, and complex and/or chronic health conditions including mental health and addictions. Today, with four busy clinics in three of London’s most under-served regions, the organization is viewed as a community leader in newcomer health, care of marginalized women, issues of health equity, client-led service development and the advancement of partnerships that improve access to vital services for people who are at the margins in our community.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have maintained our operations in a centralized location and innovated new ways to continue to support our staff and clients through this difficult time with minimal interruption to our service delivery.

About the Position
 
The Medical Laboratory Technician works as part of the primary care team and is responsible for proper collection and processing of samples for laboratory testing.

The Medical Laboratory Technician will collect, process, sort, label, and prepare samples for pickup and transport to laboratory partners.  They will work to sterilize equipment, prepare exam rooms, and will greet clients and take vital statistics.

The Medical Laboratory Technician will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide care to clients who, for a variety of reasons, face barriers to accessing health care elsewhere.

This full-time position typically works Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, with some evening availability required for clinic support.

Required Qualifications:
 
  • Laboratory Technician Certification required
  • Current registration with CMLTO or willingness to obtain and maintain registration
  • 2-4 years of experience in a medical clinic or laboratory setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of veins/anatomy and laboratory tests (specimen requirements, specific requisitions) 
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Occupational Health & Safety and infection control principles
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • An understanding of, and sensitivity towards, the belief systems and lifestyles of other groups.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, multicultural setting.
  • Experience using Electronic Medical Records systems, Telus Practice Solutions Suite currently in use.
  • Experience with vulnerable populations and community health care.

Nice to Haves:
 
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve.
  • Experience with other software applications including Microsoft Office and other web-based programs.
