Job Description

This position is anticipated to extend for a period of (9) months and may be extended for a further (3) months, subject to availability of work and funding. 
 

SWPH is seeking a strategic and innovative leader with a dedicated focus on community building and emphasis on health and well-being for all community members. By leveraging continuous quality improvement (CQI), LEAN and change management principles and methodologies, the Manager, Strategic Initiative will provide effective project leadership to effectively support and drive the design, facilitation, implementation and evaluation of program/department-based projects and initiatives for the health unit.  In addition to project leadership, the successful candidate will apply a risk management approach and help guide SWPH’s emergency response to COVID-19 in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. 

Through creative problem solving, decision making, and community development, the successful candidate will ensure SWPH’s existing resources and partnerships are utilized to achieve the goals and expectations of the organization. 

Working with senior leaders and program management, the Manager, Strategic Initiative will work towards the following goals:

  • Plan and execute projects of various levels of complexity and uncertainty from ideation to post-implementation review, including managing project scope, requirements changes, multiple and competing demands and priorities.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned program and administrative stakeholders.
  • Recommend and implement solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the organization.
  • Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Build change management plans of varying scope and type; lead or participate in a variety of change management activities including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Develop solutions and make recommendations based on an understanding of the health units existing strategic goals as well as stakeholder needs.

As a successful candidate, your achievements include:

  • Post-Secondary education in Business, Quality Improvement, Public Administration, Project Management, Health / Social Services, or similar discipline.
  • Project Management certification, including demonstrated project management skills, with extensive knowledge in project management principles.
  • Systems thinker, with two (2) to four (4) years of experience leading projects and initiatives aligned with Strategic direction.
  • Experience in procurement and/or supply chain management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff, politicians, the public, and allied agencies.
  • Ability to formulate and implement training objectives and public presentations.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.
