As the Health & Safety Officer at Callon Dietz, you are a proactive, independent, motivated and detail-oriented health and safety advocate. Reporting to the President, you will lead the initiation, promotion, implementation and maintenance of Callon Dietz’s health and safety projects and initiatives. In this role, you will:
 
  • Manage, audit and maintain our COR  accreditation program.
  • Promote a collaborative culture of health and safety through the development and implementation of processes.
  • Act as a liaison between senior leadership and staff to implement process improvement, fostering buy-in and commitment throughout the organization.
  • Organize and develop process to ensure health and safety compliance and adoption throughout the organization.
  • Act as a leader to ensure organization wide compliance and buy-in with policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provide short safety briefings and connect with all new hires (typically during safety orientation).
  • Complete office and field inspections at the end of each month to identify gaps/improvements in our Health & Safety Program, and report on the results.
  • Monitor and recommend corrective actions (documented in corrective action logs).
  • Review quarterly statistical reports, and present findings to management.
  • Ensure compliance meets all legislative requirements, including: WHMIS, First Aid Responder, Workplace Safety and Health Committee, etc.
  • Monitor, update and communicate the Callon Dietz Health and Safety Program.
  • Ensure Safe Work Practices & Procedures are current and complete for all worksites.
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required.
  • Lead and/or coordinate occurrence of regular staff safety meetings (quarterly, and annual update).
  • Conduct effective ergonomic analysis of the workplace and implement required improvements or adjustments as necessary.
  • Active JHSC member and liaison between the committee and Managers to achieve the JHSC goals and objectives, supporting collaborative dialogue and a positive health and safety culture.
  • Manage return to work programs proactively with Management working closely with the employee, their supervisors and the insurance organization to ensure the employee's safety and health and protecting the Company's interests.
  • Diligently encourage and promote positive and effective employee relations through communications initiatives, coaching supervisors, providing counseling to employees and monitoring employee satisfaction.
  • Assist in development and updates of Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary education in HR and Health & Safety Certification and/or a combination of relevant work experience
  • Experience with Ontario Health & Safety Policies
  • Certified in First Aid and WHMIS
  • Recent experience in a COR certified work environment or demonstrated strong, recent and working knowledge of COR
  • Highly safety motivated
  • Experience in team leadership
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and resolve conflict
  • Strong process and organizational skills
  • Willing to speak and advocate on behalf of employees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to regularly interact with other members of the JHSC
  • Willing to travel to all Callon Dietz offices for presentations and updates
