We are searching for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual to join our Administrative team as our HR Generalist/Daymaker. The Administrative team is responsible for supporting the rest of our departments from bill payments to hiring and everything in between at our family business.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Heeman’s Leadership Team, the HR Generalist/Daymaker ensures the smooth functioning of employee relations and customer service. Acting as a point of contact for any employee inquiries, concerns, or proposals, the HR Generalist/Daymaker fulfills seasonal duties such as performance management and recruitment cycles as well as monitors and maintains day to day workplace policies and procedures. The HR Generalist/Daymaker focuses on the administration of employee benefits, payroll, recruitment, legislative compliance, and personnel tracking.

This is a hybrid position which will consist of approximately 70% Human Resources duties and approximately 30% duties related to leading the customer service experience. Human Resources duties are the priority however, when they are not required the individual will assist on the sales floor performing cashier and other customer service duties.

Responsibilities:
• Ensures compliance with labour regulations pertaining to the Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Code.
• Advises management in various Human Resources topics such as company policies, leaves of absence and compensation and resolves any issues that may arise.
• Provides support to employees by resolving issues promptly, answering general and specific inquiries, and establishing protocol and procedures for smooth operations.
• Maintains employee files and records in electronic and paper form, utilizing an HRIS.
• Assists in the development, advancement, and implementation of Human Resources policies and workplace procedures.
• Conducts full-cycle talent acquisition and recruitment.
• Creates and enforces terms of employment contracts for all current and incoming staff.
• Assists in the employee onboarding process by organizing training & development initiatives.
• Organizes 2-week check-ins and probation period reviews for new hires.
• Organizes and ensures annual performance evaluations and mid-point check-ins.
• Makes recommendations to Leadership Team relating to employee needs.
• Updates job requirements and job descriptions for all positions, ensuring accuracy for performance management and compensation in relation to position in organization chart.
• Administers benefit plan and acts as employees’ point of contact for related questions.
• Gathers and analyzes data pertaining to Human Resources (e.g. Time to hire, departmental turnover, etc.)
• Assists in the administration of payroll.
• Conducts exit interviews for employees leaving the company.
• Participates in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, maintaining meeting notes and ensuring compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
• Assists front-end team by working on the sales floor as needed during “flex” time periods (peak season, non-Human Resources peak seasons.)
• Performs other related duties as required.

Prerequisites:
• Minimum 1-2 years previous Human Resources experience.
• Human Resources experience within an agricultural work environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of rights and regulations, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Ontario Health and Safety Act.
• Completion of a Human Resources Management program is an asset.
• CHRP/CHRL designation or in process of is not required but is a definite asset.
• Experience using HRIS, electronic files, and administration of payroll.
• Previous customer service experience.

Special Conditions:
• Repetitive lifting, bending, and/or twisting required with the ability to lift up to 50lbs, when assisting on the sales floor.
• Greenhouse conditions (hot/cold environments depending on the season.)
• During peak season (May-June), the HR Generalist/Daymaker will be expected to work 6 days a week.
• Additional purchasing periods where all hands are on deck, occasional overnight or after hours required for purchasing trips or setting up display areas.
• Retail business: weekend work and possible evenings required.
• Reliable personal transportation is required as no public transportation is available to this location.
