Job Description

Job purpose

This position is responsible for transporting students of various ages to and from their homes and their respective schools in an effective and safe manner. This individual will be responsible for following established routes and ensuring the established schedule is followed so passengers arrive at their destination on-time. The School Bus Driver will maintain the health and safety of the students while transporting, loading and unloading the students, and ensure that all policies and procedures are followed while operating the vehicle.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Safely drive students to and from their homes and schools during the school year
  • Follow the assigned time schedule for pick up and drop off (knowledge of the assigned school route and surrounding areas)
  • Read and interpret maps as required
  • Assist students with boarding/exiting the bus and crossing the street safely
  • Report any disciplinary problems on appropriate form and submit to Manager
  • Communicate clearly and interact with parents, school employees, passengers, co-workers and the public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Adhere to and enforce bus safety rules and standards
  • Maintain thorough working knowledge of all rules of the road and comply with traffic regulations to operate the vehicle in a safe manner
  • Complete internal bus clean up at the end of the run to ensure all garbage and lost items have been moved to their designated area
  • Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs
  • Report any injuries, collisions or property damage that occurs immediately
  • Perform daily pre-trip/post-trip vehicle safety inspections
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Patience and a desire to make a difference in a child’s life
  • Ability to remain attentive when faced with distractions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain B License (we provide FREE license upgrade)
  • Meet the minimum age requirement to hold a school bus driver’s license (21 years of age)
  • Hold a valid (non-probationary) driver's license with a very good driving record
  • Display safe and defensive driving techniques
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Undergo & Pass a Ministry prescribed medical examination, criminal record search, vulnerable sector clearance, driver’s abstract and other background checks
  • First Aid certificate is considered an asset

Working conditions

Fast-paced environment; Interacts with public, including school age children; Hours of work based on route as set out by Manager, Monday to Friday (September to June) on school days only; Ability to attend meetings;

Physical requirements

Sitting for extended periods of time; Manual Dexterity to operate a large motor vehicle; Exposure to all weather conditions, Repetitive work;

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent;  Hours of work are within 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (September to June) on school days only;

$18.10 per hour; Automatic Buses; FREE License Upgrade; Potential to park bus at home; Extra assignments may be available at other locations; We Will Train;
