Family Visiting Program Worker: Part-Time

Reporting to the Supervisor- Family Visiting and Educational Services, the Family Visiting Program (FVP) Worker: Part-time is an expert in the areas of developmental practice and service provision in a child welfare context. This position is instrumental in providing family visiting services, geared to parents, children and youth, that offer an opportunity for assessment, coaching and teaching.

The FVP Worker: Part-time employs positive engagement strategies to assess and support the strengths and potential needs of children, youth, and their parent(s). Child safety, wellbeing and permanence are the priorities. The FVP Worker: Part-time recognizes that while visiting may be prescribed by the Court, it is also the right of the child or youth. In addition, the FVP Worker: Part-time supports visits as essential to the child/youth’s sense of belonging and ongoing attachment to family. Such visits may occur at the Society or in the community. The FVP Worker: Part-time is accountable for ensuring all services are carried out in a child and family-centred manner within an anti-oppressive framework.

Service response and provision is developed in adherence to the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Ministry standards and the policies and procedures of the Children’s Aid Society of London and Middlesex (CASLM). Practice is guided by the tenets of the CASLM Family Visiting Model.

The FVP Worker: Part-time is an excellent communicator able to effectively engage with children, youth, families, care providers, and internal and external partners in a purposeful and collaborative manner. With a focus on teaching, coaching and practical support, this position works in partnership with the Child Protection Workers and other integrated team members.

Part-time availability, on an ‘on call’ basis. Availability to work days, evenings and weekend hours, on a planned and unplanned basis.The schedule is completed in accordance with the Collective Agreement. 60 day Notice of cancellation is applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
*Successful completion of a Child and Youth Worker diploma
*Availability to work days, evenings and weekend hours, on a planned and unplanned basis
*Previous experience working with infants, children, youth and families required
*Previous child welfare experience in the family visiting area preferred
*Extensive knowledge of agency and community services and supports
*Proven knowledge, skills, tools and techniques of developmental practice
*Experience with evidence-based practices designed to promote optimal development for infants, children, youth and families including those at-risk and with special needs in the context of the family, the community and the lifespan
*Ability to establish relationships and engage in a collaborative and meaningful manner with others particularly members of the integrated and community teams
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to perform under pressure
*Ability to meet administrative requirements efficiently and effectively
*Excellent writing skills
*High tolerance for emotionally intensive work and cases
*Proven ability to work collaboratively across the agency, within the child welfare sector, and with community partners
*Valid Ontario G or G2 Driver’s Licence
*Access to a vehicle for work purposes
*Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and e-forms
*Bias for action, ability to work independently and strong critical thinking and negotiating skills

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

Part-time position
Candidates must have availability to work days, evenings, and weekends on a planned and unplanned basis.

SALARY

$22.40 - $27.22 per hour (2020-2021)
