Job Description

The Housing & Ancillary Services Information Technology (HASIT) team strives to provide secure, cost effective and innovative technology solutions for the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services that support the best student experience at the same time safeguarding the reputation of the University.
The Director is a key member of the Division’s leadership team, and is the chief strategist and visionary of IT planning and implementation for the Division (includes Housing, Hospitality Services, Conference Services, Great Hall Catering, Residence Dining, Bookstore, Computer Store, eGaming and Graphic Services). The Director sets the technology direction that supports the mission, vision and values of the Division, and Western. The incumbent will research new technologies and initiate projects for new and revised technology strategies for the Division. The incumbent will oversee and manage IT-related project work, in response to staff and student computing needs. The Director is also responsible for ensuring 100% uptime of critical computing infrastructure.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science
- Additional degree or certification in Business Administration or Marketing is preferred
Experience:
- 10 years’ progressive experience in Information Technology in a large, complex organization
- 3 years’ experience supervising staff and projects
- Experience in an academic, hospitality or retail environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge related to the development and management of a secure Information Technology infrastructure
- Expert knowledge in business process design, project development and management
- Expert knowledge of software and information system testing methodologies
- Expertise with complex network security and backup systems design and installation
- In-depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and guidelines as they relate to IT, data governance and protection of personal data
- Specific technical knowledge relating to networking and micro computing, with a conceptual understanding of information technology and its application at universities
- Expertise in Internet Service Provider equipment and technologies, traffic monitoring, packing and traffic shaping strategies and appliances as a means of limiting costly bandwidth requirements
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and assess computer systems and hardware/software proposals for technical merit, cost effectiveness and business application
- Ability to develop strategic plans and budgets to manage resources effectively
- Strong analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to coach and train staff to respond to a variety of complex IT issues
- Leadership skills with the ability to inspire employees and develop a shared vision to lead a team to excellence
- A collaborative leadership approach with the ability to foster long-term relationships with the University’s many constituencies
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
- Ability to collaborate and interact with other business functions including campus-based IT teams
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to maintain principles under internal and/or external pressure
- Ability to recommend and implement controls to manage operational and legal risks
- Ability to quickly re-allocate resources and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances
- Project management skills to align projects with strategic goals and operational objectives
