Human Resources Generalist

KML Windows Inc., a division of Andersen Corporation, is currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist.  This is a full time position responsible for assisting the Human Resources Manager with all aspects of Human Resources administration, including: employee relations matters; compensation/benefits; payroll; recruitment, etc.  The successful applicant will champion and support the HR programs and policies of the division as well as legislative requirements and ensure all HR processes are followed and applied appropriately.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages Recruitment and On-Boarding processes including, administering internal Job Posting program, posting to job boards, interacting with recruitment agencies and manages the external candidate database information through our Corporate partners; schedules and conducts interviews and reference checks as applicable; conducts orientation and maintains the New Employee Performance Review Tracker.
  • Assists in scheduling divisional training; maintains training database and issues course completion documents as applicable.
  • Assists in administration of the PeopleSoft database, ensuring currency and liaises with Andersen Corporation as appropriate.
  • Maintains employee personnel files in line with company policies and government regulations and maintains records within company record retention requirements.
  • Acts as an advisor to employees, Department Managers, Supervisors and Lead Hands to ensure the fair and consistent implementation of Company policies, procedures, and with legislative requirements.
  • Assists the Department Manager/Supervisor(s) with investigations of a minor breech of Company policies/procedures.
  • Maintains the Corrective Action Tracker and performs administrative duties related to discipline process.
  • Administers all Division benefit programs and serves as a resource on benefit issues, including benefit orientation.
  • Participates in the Return-To-Work program for employees returning from work or non-work related injuries/illnesses and liaises with providers as required.
  • Participates in organizing Company social events, contests, programs (incentive and rewards programs); posts and promotes as required.
  • Monitors and tracks performance appraisal procedures, Coaching and Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Ensures the reconciliation of Payroll hours for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Promotes and ensures the full utilization of all communication channels so that continuous dialogue exists among all levels within the division.
  • Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery.
  • Maintains a high profile with employees on plant floor and strongly advocates to ensure timely resolution of employee concerns and issues.
  • Responds to routine inquiries/requests from employees: Eg. employment verifications/letters, benefit plan provisions, Handbook issues, job opportunities, etc,; as per company policy and legislative requirements.
  • Assists the HR Manager with HR projects, reports, programs, as required.
  • Maintains plant and office bulletin boards in up-to-date and legally compliant manner.
  • Handles confidential information and personnel files on a regular basis.
  • Provides back-up for the Health & Safety Specialist for orientation purposes if required..
  • Complies with, supports and models Strathroy-Andersen’s operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, Andersen Values, and Operational Principles.
  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OHSA.
  • Maintains an organized and tidy work area.
  • Other duties as required. 

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
 
  • Post-secondary education in the Human Resources field
  • Minimum 3-5 years in a Human Resources Generalist/Administrative capacity
  • Knowledge of Human Rights, Employment Laws, OHSA, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to meet targets, goals, timelines, etc.
  • Demonstrates skills to consistently achieve commitment and consensus with all stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power point) 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrates clear and respectful communication skills in all situations
  • Ability to work flexible and/or additional hours in order to meet customer and timeline requirements
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other employees
  • Able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner. 

RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Under the general direction of the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Generalist works independently and confers regularly with division, corporate, contractors, and supplier staff specialists.  A valid Driver’s License is required for day travel with the occasional overnight stay.  A valid passport which allows the Generalist to travel to attend business meetings, educational seminars, etc. is necessary.  Some day-travel and overtime may be required to meet the position expectations.  The Human Resources Generalist works in an office environment but may be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant.
