Job Description
On behalf of our client we are seeking a Financial Controller to join the senior management team.
The role will coordinate all activities within the Finance Department including accounts payable and receivable, oversight of month-end and year-end financial accounting activities and resultant reporting. The individual will be responsible for the critical thinking and logical analysis necessary to ensure the business is on the right track financially.
Develop & lead finance and accounting team
- Maintain a high-functioning finance and accounting team
- Evaluate and implement best practices for finance and accounting processes and internal controls
- Develop scalable, reliable processes to support a variety of businesses and ongoing growth
- Foster an environment conducive to high performance, collaboration and engagement
Reporting
- Maintain a robust and efficient financial reporting system producing accurate, comprehensive and timely monthly reporting to enable the management team to operate effectively
- Provide timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial trends and forecasts
- Drive operational efficiency's and data integrity through systems integration and enhancing user knowledge
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with federal, provincial and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
- Manage the annual audit process in an efficient manner
- Codify credit policies, develop systemic approach to assessing credit risk and minimize loss experience
- Continually assess the company's risk management approach, identify target risk levels, and recommend strategies to manage risk accordingly
Forecasting & strategic planning
- Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and reporting, including consolidation across corporations as required
- Evaluate and advise on the financial impact of long range planning, and the introduction of new programs/strategies
- Prepare detailed financial models/analysis to assist with capital expenditure, acquisition and other management decision making
- Interface with division managers and other key executives
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek to deliver a full range of business solutions
- Work closely with senior management to maintain positive and trusted relationships with key customers, suppliers and the community
- Provide secretarial duties as needed, including co-ordination of legal firm activities, updating of minute books, directors resolutions, shareholders resolutions, etc.
- Advisor & relationship management
- Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities
- Drive strategic initiatives to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities including acquisitions
- Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities in the areas of corporate structure, treasury and tax planning
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners including financial institutions, auditors, insurance providers and others
